Description Everyone knew what the Icthyocentaur was, so I shouldn't even have to say that and Enfield is a heraldic beastie (not usually depicted with wings) who guarded clan cheiftans bodies until they could be buried. mainly associated with certain Irish family crests.

the nice thing with heraldic beasties is you can arbitrarily add wings wings without being "wrong", since heraldry changes all the "rules" as it were. This enfield seemed to require them.

There are actually many depictions of the Enfield. Most depictions show it withΒ the head of a fox, chest of a greyhound, talons of an eagle, body of a lion, and the hind legs and tail of a wolf. However some times it will have a lion's tale rather than a wolf tale but most of the time it's a wolf. I have also seen some depictions of those with wings.

In the Irish and Celtic culture each part of this chimera held its own meaning and symbolic status
The head of the fox for craftiness or cleverness.
The chest of a greyhound for swiftness and endurance.
The body of a lion means royalty and bravery.
The hindquarters of a wolf for fraternity and loyalty - mostly to family.
The forelegs of an eagle's talons suggests strength, nobility and hunting prowess.

I find these fascinating creatures and do which more people knew about them.

With or without wings, it's still pretty cool.

I love Enfields. It’s hard to show all that they are mixed with. It’s the head of a fox, the forelegs (+ or - the chest) of an eagle, the back or body of a lion, and the hindquarters of a wolf.
There really isn’t much I can find on them. I cant even find the story for the myth.

If your looking for mythical creatures people don’t draw much then you might try the Halcyon Bird. It dose not have a proper page in wikipedia, just a piece to the myth is found under the genes of kingfisher named after it, so I would look elsewhere.

Sometimes the Enfield is supposed to have the body of a greyhound... There are whole societies that argue about the enfield, I guess. But why, I cannot imagine.

Oh ya it was the chest of a greyhound (forgot that part)!
Hmmm... People argue about everything. I have a black cat, my luck hasn't changed.

lol... somehow the people that are into foxes are always REALLY into foxes. like you are either "oh that's nice" or you are "OMG a FOX!" same for wolves and cats i guess, but it just strikes me with foxes. I guess I am sort of that way with sphinxes but i am super-picky. and there are really not many of those out there.
