Description
original is 18"x22" oil on canvas. i did this as a submission to the Bertollis pasta sauce company "Art Of The Tomato" contest back in 2002, and lo and behold, i won $500 and a trip to california. go me. then they hung the piece at corporate headquarters for a year and wanted me to "Donate" it to them. i suggested they "PURCHASE" it, seeing as they are a huge corporation, not a charity, and i am a starving artist. and they declined, so i have it back now, which is fine by me, it's awful cute.Related content

yeah i found the writing in an old book at the library, a transcribed copy of a 1600's "Herbiary" where they talked about "Love Apples" and said that the Italians ate them, but that the brits knew they were poisonous and all this weird stuff. it was pretty interesting. i hand-wrote the passage in the background directly from the book. and i drew the picture at the top from a drawing in the book as well.

People used to call it poisonous love apples, so it's clever how you incorporated that aspect. I love that checkerboard strip hehe.

I definitely agree with your responce, I think I would have done the same given similar circumstances, then again they did give you moneys. great job on the tomatoes but why do you call it apples?
