I always thought of a sphinx as more of a force of nature than a riddle-making character. The Symbolists used the Sphinx to represent the inspiration that gripped an artist to create, a powerful and seductive but potentially dangerous force that could grant magical gifts or tear a person to shreds.

This is stunningly beautiful, different, and thought-provoking. That last, of course, refers to your comments on the drawing. I especially love the colors in this.

thanks! i was freaking out about the colors at first, before i introduced the guache it was completely different and not nearly rich enough! i'm glad it worked out.
