Watercolor and Guache on watercolor paperI always thought of a sphinx as more of a force of nature than a riddle-making character. The Symbolists used the Sphinx to represent the inspiration that gripped an artist to create, a powerful and seductive but potentially dangerous force that could grant magical gifts or tear a person to shreds.

thanks! i was freaking out about the colors at first, before i introduced the guache it was completely different and not nearly rich enough! i'm glad it worked out.
