a good technique when trying to achieve rough earthy textures for rocks is to unfocus ur eyes so you don't care about the details and instead concentrate only on the overall effect of ur strokes. Youll paint more messily and get that texture you wanted, of which you can refine later!

Most of my paintings take 5 to 10 hours. That headshot for Brat went into something like 12
I refine way too much, that fur went through SEVERAL major repaints
But refining ain't no good unless you actually have a good painting to work with
I wanna loosen up like you and learn how to paint better + more interesting light effects + materials
