Description
Chiefest and Greatest calamity of our age.This was a large-scale painting done in order to get a full-body view of the dragon and to make a print later to fill an empty spot on my wall.
This was a lot of fun but also a test of perseverance since it took me way longer than intended.

Oh you have no idea ^^ Especially after watching the first hour of the movie, Smaug was more than welcome. They pulled him off amazingly well.

I'll admit, given Peter Jackson's history of making the animal races mute (WHERE is the warg king anyways? Do the eagles ever talk?), I was seriously worried he would botch Smaug and make him just another big dumb dragon. Part of what I think is so interesting about Smaug is that not only is he gigantic, not only are his scales like shields and his talons like swords and his breath an inferno, but he's also a clever bad guy. Vain and greedy? Yes, but there is something to be said for a devilishly intelligent bad guy who is also the size of a skyskraper. I was ridiculously pleased with the Smaug in the movie, not that I've quite forgiven Peter Jackson for blowing a short novel into a 3-part epic. Still, Smaug is one of my favorite villains and I think you've done him justice here. Fantastic work!
