It's pretty hard to understand, but it shows you how I do it. I do not trace because then I don't see it as something I've done completely by myself.I know I didn't show you how I draw horses, but I'll jsut have to do a tutorial about that some other time..

thats, but it is still hard, I understand the fact about the different colors that you use in the coat, but it is soo hard to combine it with each other o_o with backgrounds is it much easier for me

Yeah it takes a while to get used to it, try working with grayscales in the beginning helps a lot!

I have tried grayscale, but really don't know how I must change the colors of it o.O It's really hard for me.

How would you go about doing this for an unnatural colored horse where you couldn't work directly from a reference?

Either I'd paint it as a grayscale and then add colour or I'd create a little box with colours I'm going to use and stick with them, it's sort of hard to explain.. The last example gives the best result though since I find that grayscales are hard to colour

These colors i can see you took from the picture.
But what have you done with the other paintings of yourse where you have drawn youre painting another color than the picture? How do you know witch colors to use?

Either I've created a colour scheme before or I've just done a grayscale and coloured it afterwards

You basically just draw a box for example with all of the colours you are going to use

So you find a picture of a horse with a color that you like, and then you take the colors and use them on the horse youre going to draw?

Wow, nice job! Did you use the smudge tool?
I usually leave that till I'm finished with the whole coat and then just take a customized brush and paint along the edges of the markings. I hope you understand what I'm saying

I have varied your version a little bit:
at first iยดve filled the horse with a ground colour
than (in a new layer) iยดve done it with your tutorial - but i have smudged it at the end^^ (i think iยดm too impatient to do it like you xD )

Haha, yeah you should try not using it sometime! You get a better result blending with brushes/colours instead of the smudge tool

Wow, this is great! I saw your style and for a moment I had trouble believing it wasn't a photo. I do have to make sure I have one thing straight though. For the whole "blending" kinda thing, you just go over again with the same colors but lower opacity? I'm kinda having trouble getting it but really want to try this.

This is a very painterly way to blend, and its really helpful for artists who want to be more painterly with their digital art. Out of curiosity, what program do you use?
