Description
It's pretty hard to understand, but it shows you how I do it. I do not trace because then I don't see it as something I've done completely by myself.I know I didn't show you how I draw horses, but I'll jsut have to do a tutorial about that some other time..
If you have any questions send me a message or write it in a comment!
Picture I chose to draw; Ibn Raswan
The finished picture will be submited as soon as it's finished x)

Gah it's really hard to explain, it's really just basic blending using colours and low opacity isntead of the smudge tool >.<

what would happen if you did use the smudge tool on low

You usually don't get a great texture and the picture just looks a bit blurry

I actually used to use grids and I think I may go back to this. Everything did come out a lot more realistic.
I really like your method for coloring. I'm gonna give it a try

Some people don't like the grid system at all but for me it gives me the best result. It does help you a lot when it comes to realism in my opinion I'm glad you do, and please link me to the artwork you've used my techniques for so I can see!

I'd really like to try this technique! ^^ Unfortunately I don't think I'm patient or skilled enough to do so

feverpaint In reply to Hagthorn [2012-04-17 15:57:43 +0000 UTC]
Haha, you should! ~badazal said the same thing but right now she's using and creating amazing art (quicker than me though lol) You can do it faster if you don't have the patience by cheating a bit and maybe not adding as much detail and when it comes to the skill level you could start of by using the eyedropper tool instead of "guessing" the colours! That's what she's doing and even though it can be seen as cheating a bit it's a good way of learning! I did that in the beginning (long time ago) and then felt I had the skills to move away from the tool

Hey, "cheating" is the best way of learning .. Or, maybe not .. Haha, it depends!
Well, maybe I should try it then

Mhm. I don't like this technique. I think it's not so variable and even not so original. It's sth. like copy & paste of lil color parts, even if you don't use the pipette tool. And I have taken a closer look at some of your works and I have mentioned that they are not scribbled down, they are traced from the reference (the lines not the coloring). Even hairs are on exactly the same place like they're seen in the reference (I looked at the palomino welsh picture). I couldn't believe that this is possible for anyone.
I really love your results, but not as drawings, more as photo manipulations or smudges. But a drawing is something different in my mind.
I don't want to expose you or so. I just wanted my opinion to say. I really do appreciate your work!! But you know. It is hard to explain. Just wanted to explain why I think it's a manip and not a drawing. I know that manips can be MUCH harder than a drawing. It sounds so nasty. x)
Try to submit one of your pictured to photo manipulations just to try out if there are more watchers for you. I think that I am not the only one thinking this way.

I get this a lot and I can totally see how you would think this. I can assure you that my drawings are drawings. I've livestreamed several times so I have a lot of witnesses that can tell you this is true. And the reasons for why my paintings are so alike the photos I reference from is because I draw using the "grid" system and therefor basically copy the whole horse except I draw it from scratch instead of tracing. I mainly did this for my older art, my newer stuff is all original and you wouldn't be able to find any hair that's in the exact space as the reference picture. The horses on my latest artwork don't even look remotely close to the reference picture. I can prove this to you if you want just by sending you links to my references.
So no you didn't expose me, I haven't been lying about how I do my art etc. And this technique has actually been helpfull to some people, ~badazal for example has improved a lot using this technique and is a dear friend of mine who has been watching many of my livestream sessions. So no I won't try posting my pictures in the photo manipulations folder cause THAT would be lying about what I do. If you need further evidence/information send me a note and I'll gladly discuss this further with you!

Yes the newest work of you do really look like a drawing and is cool of course. I would never say that this technique isn't helpful for someone to learn painting. Especially if they go and look at your newer submits.
Ah yes I know the 'grid' system. And now I knwo how it could be that the outlines look as they are traced. I haven't thought about this technique, 'cause I don't get it to work for me. Sorry about this.
I would love to see how you did your newest commission work I have seen you have done a walk-through for it? It would be interesting to see how you get the lightning in there. This is the most interesting piece of you by the way, because I can CLEARLY see that it's DRAWN and nothing else. Is it the technique you explained in this tutorial here? I couldn't believe that, cause it's a different color? Sorry this is a completely new way of drawing for me.
So excuse me if I sound rude the first way, it's just suspicion of the new way.
Do you have skype? If so: fleurioo :3

No problem, like I said before I get this a lot and I'm used to it Yeah I'm working on putting it together, but it might take a while cause my school is killing me right now.. Thank you! Yes it sort of is, the only difference is that I've used another horse as a colour reference. No problem! I think it's great when people have the courage to question others, especially since there are people lying about what kind of art they're doing thinking no one will notice
Yes I do, I've added you!

what do you mean by a "hard edge brush"? For blending cause I use the smudging tool for my blending. Just wondering if that was the same thing or a something different on photoshop?

No the smudging tool is something completely different, I use the brush tool with the hardness on 100%

That's beautiful; you have a lot of talent.
I'm just curious though, when you blend, do you use a brush to go over it, a brush that's set to pen pressure? That was the only part I didn't fully understand, like how to melt all the seperate color "dots" together...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
feverpaint In reply to phthalon [2011-06-20 12:14:05 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
Yes I use my brush and set the opacity jitter to pen pressure. You sort of just paint over the other colour very lightly with the other colour, and then you just keep on doing that picking the colours in the middle till they blend.. It's really hard to explain and I might do a tutorial about it soon. I hope you get it

phthalon In reply to feverpaint [2011-06-20 19:30:27 +0000 UTC]
Oh! I understand At first I was just confused as to how the colors all blended together as sson as the pen pressure was set
Thanks!
