"Well if you have books on the subject I could read about the magic and try and replicate it in the format of my version of it. Naturally i would do testing on inanimate objects first. I mean one malfunction and I might size shift the other direction and I would not want to appear like a humanoid version of some city smashing lizard like in a late night movie." Oh how unaware he was they might actually understand that comment. "Anyway I would be willing to try but since I have this tent I see no need for it to be a daily thing especially since I figure making someone my size down to human scale must be straining and would possibly need a booster crystal." Well he hoped they had booster crystals to assist when one needs a bit more magic output but does not have more magi to combine spells. "Oh yea new thing to you I guess." Erein reaches into his bag and pulls out a small purple glowing crystal and places it on the table. "This is a booster crystal, it doubles the power of a single magical event. However it burns out after use and becomes a useless pure diamond, Back home we just grind them up for industrial use since otherwise its a paperweight. I do have some spent ones if diamonds have value on Earth though." He did ponder a bit if they had value here what would one the size of his fist get in their currency.
Turning a gaze back to Liekki and chuckling and then smiling at her. "We could always use the size altering magic if we find a way to keep a stable gateway to my world. Make the two of you as big as me and then it would not be threatening. Perhaps rig the portal to make tiny folk the right size... Speaking of which once I get a chance to understand how your resize spells work if I find a way to work that into the door charge crystals I would step outside human sized and come back inside to normal sized... In theory as long as I set it to know you two were friendly the same thing would happen." He shrugged a bit and leaned back "Of course that is if Earth magic is even compatible with myself or my technology... Oh yea something about my world, Magic and technology coexist. As in even non users use it passively in some technology. Our portable fusion reactors for example kickstart the reaction with sun diamonds and then confine it with shielding enchanted amber."

"Books?" Ronan repeated. "I've never seen a magic book before, but I'm sure they must exist somewhere. And it's not all that hard to shrink a person... I think I could even shrink you without too much difficulty... shrinking's not that complicated, unlike levitation or turning something invisible."
Both boys were surprised as Erien put the gemstone on the table and explained both what it did and what it was made of. "Sure, diamonds are pretty expensive here," Liekki said. "Never knew they could be used for magic before."
"They're decent conductors," Ronan said, "but I'd never heard of one being used like this before."
"That wouldn't work," Ronan told the giant mage. "We couldn't possibly be made your size. It's dangerous to stretch that far. You'd be able to return to your original size after being shrunk, but there's no way either of us could grow to match."

"Not just good conductors but they are also good at storing our magic in the high density crytaline structure. Fire magi love them since only the most extreme heat can damage them.". Erein shrugged a bit and pulled out another one this time giving off no energy and also the size of his fist. "Take this as compensation though. Should pay for your time with me.". He of course did not remember how such a rock would be too large for them to lift. Though that mention of levitation reminded him of home. "Okay so growth is bad and would not work. Levitation however is easy, we use antigravity vehicles on a daily basis back home. But I am willing to undergo size alteration if it let's me see how humans live.".

"As compensation?" Liekki repeated. "You're paying us? For what?"
"Yeah, what he said," Ronan added. "You don't have to pay us. And levitation may be easy where you're from, but believe me, around here it's rater tricky. Do you want to shrink down now, or later?"

"Oh compensation for putting up with a stray giant from another galaxy, showing me your city through a vision and soon via shrinking. Not to mention any other trouble that might come of showing an outsider around." Erein replied and left the enormous gem on the table for them to figure out how to move, Mostly to see how it would be done. "Besides if I were at home I would just send it to reprocessing because on our world it is useless once discharged, As for shrinking I think we should do that outside so I can still reach the door handle." He did think it would be funny to find themselves stuck all human sized of course it would only be funny for a little bit... "Of course if you two want to have some tea or maybe just relax for awhile, After all you must have been hiking in the forest for awhile to find me... Unless I am in a park in the middle of the city itself."

"Well, if you insist," Leikki said uncertainly.
Ronan chuckled. "Yeah, being able to reach the doorknob sounds rather important," he agreed. "And we're not too awfully far from the city... perhaps five minutes, if we walk straight and don't wander all over. And actually... we could wait to shrink you until we're right at the edge of the forest, unless you think it would be too hard to move through the thick foliage. That would save on time somewhat."

"I think I can get through some trees. So if you two want transport to town I so no issue in offering said ride." The giant then rubbed his head and looked at the humans pondering what exactly to do next. He was stuck here and he could setup the entertainment and pick up human TV and try and figure out more about the world that way. Since it was late morning it was not like he could offer for them to stay the night. "So I guess I leave things up to you two, We can spend time in here or we can head into town. Unless you wanted to see the other room." He did not add that he could technically add rooms onto the "tent" with the right application of magic. "I guess I am bit lost in what to do at the moment now and I doubt I should go back to sleeping."

"It'll be more interesting in person than just with the info transfer I gave you," he told the giant mage.

"Okay then I guess you two should climb aboard then, It will be faster." He replied and laid out an open hand to the pair, Remembering well that these humans did not like being merely grabbed. He did find it curious how such tiny sentient beings existed and were capable of such intelligent conversation. "I guess I should tell you more about myself, My species lives for 800 years and I am currently 27. I live in a large city on the coast and my primary residence is a condo on the beach. Though I do sometimes live at the tower if I need to be near an experiment. In the terms of my people I would call myself about six feet tall. My kind are also an artificial species, Many centuries ago we were actually created as some kind of labor race.. But that is a long story that I am sure you would not want to hear."

The two boys climbed onto Erein's hand, sitting down cross-legged in his palm. "You live to eight hundred?" Liekki asked, wide eyed. "That's about ten times a human's lifespan!"
"We're still teenagers," Ronan said. "Liekki's sixteen, and I'm seventeen. So you're about six feet tall, in your terms? I'll try to aim for that when I shrink you." He grinned suddenly as something occurred to him.
"Wait, you mean like you were made in some lab by scientists?" Liekki asked in surprise. "Weird."
"If your species lives to eight hundred, and you're twenty seven," Ronan said slowly, "then that means you've lived a smaller percentage of your life than a human three year old. I suppose you must mature much more quickly, relatively speaking."

"Well not me personally, I was made well likely the same way as you two were. However my species is only about three hundred thousand years old" He stopped for a moment to bring them up close to his chest to help keep his hand steady and headed out the door of the tent. Which from the inside worked like a normal door but outside appeared tent like. As he started in the direction of the city he continued. "But what happened to our creators is either lost or deliberately covered up. We do not even know if our creators were on our scale or yours. However home is on my scale so we have theories that some time well before our creation a vessel crashed and at some point they created giants to fill the gap of working the giant lands... At some point the slave race rebelled and either pushed the tinies off the world or destroyed them." He sighed a bit and paused his walk to take a breath and then remove a tree from his path with his free hand by pulling it from the ground and tossing it aside. "But hey lets not think about a war of such scale difference, I am pretty sure your species evolved naturally here though."

"Oh, by the way, you'll probably want to leave that robe behind," Ronan said. "People around here don't normally wear those. What you're wearing underneath looks normal enough, though."
"Well, yeah, I get that you personally weren't made by a scientist," Liekki said, "but it still strikes me as weird to think that your species was."
"Hey, wait. I thought you said that tiny people were no more than myths were you're from?" Ronan asked.
"Would you mind not uprooting the trees please?" Liekki asked after seeing the giant remove a tree from his path with what looked like ease. "As for our species evolving naturally... well, as far as we know, it did."

Filanwizard In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2013-11-12 07:14:08 +0000 UTC]
"Tiny people are a myth back home because we have no real confirm they existed. Okay well now I do but back home... Pretty much with no hard evidence of a smaller society let alone one that could create a species we are left to speculate. Who knows maybe we were dumped on the world to see if we could survive." The giant mage kept walking and smiled at them after giving a short apology for removing the tree. He could soon start to hear the sounds of the city and slowed his pace as to not cause tremors for anybody venturing near the forest. "So we have to figure lets say for a moment we did get created by tinier folk and a war broke out we still have no evidence of their civilization and any advanced civilization leaves evidence behind. Anyway I fear this is as far as I can go at this size." He honestly was never terribly good at history of his world and tended to focus more on his magic once it manifested in his younger years. "Interesting note about my magic, nobody of my species tends to show ability until about thirteen years at which point it tends to randomly manifest... I manifested mine in an incident at school... lets just say it was a rather interesting day... And I never faced issues from the schoolyard bully after that day." Erein chuckled a bit and smiled at them as he knelt down and placed his hand on the dirt. "The guy lived before you worry about that."

"At thirteen?" Liekki repeated. "Hmm. Well, for mages at least -those of us with elemental powers- it tends to show up at about fifteen. I dunno how it is for wizards and sorcerers, though." He looked over at Ronan, who said,
"Fifteen for wizards, usually. Sorcerers and sorceresses... as soon as they start being taught."
The two boys got off when Erein lowered his hand to the ground, and Ronan pulled his wand from his pocket.
"Ready to shrink?" he asked.

"Well about that age some younger and some much older. In our culture we prefer younger so they can get put into the right school, Now this is not some segregation thing but more importantly is teaching them control. Of course really right school means one with a training program, Replaces an athletic class though. I means sure I still had to throw balls around for a period... They just happened to be fireballs." He replied with a bit of a chuckle. "But wait a second on the shrinking." Erein stood up and ran into the forest... Returning a few minutes later in his more normal clothing and without the staff. "Okay ready to shrink, I figured I should lose the staff too. I doubt many people walk around with a staff that has a big glowing rock on the top." He this time remained standing and got himself ready to feel smaller, He was worried he would lose his magic while small. At least his clothing was somewhat normal other than his shirt being in his native language and was just something from the gift shop at the mage tower.

"We don't get put into special schools because of our abilities," Liekki said. "Well, there are some schools made specifically for only magic users. Ronan goes to one of those. But for the most part, we just go to a regular school and magic training on the side."
When Erein returned, Ronan commented lightly, "Well, no, they probably don't have staffs like yours. I've seen some pretty interesting walking sticks, though." He pointed his wand at Erein's heart and said, "Please, relax. It'll make this easier." Then he said a few words softly and the giant mage began to shrink. When the shrinking ended, he was just barely shorter than Ronan was, and a little bit taller than Liekki.
"What does your shirt say?" the fire mage asked curiously.

"Ahh interesting, In our culture though going to the special school is actually a positive mark. But we have so many high paying non magic jobs people who never develop such skills are not at a disadvantage." He replied and did not also mention that they had technology that could fill the gap so that if his world went to war even non magic users could use everything from normal weapons like railguns to lightning projector cannons. "Whoa this is strange." he replied when he realized he was getting smaller, And smaller and smaller until he realized he was shorter than Ronan though not by much. "And here you are now taller than the giant alien mage..." He replied with a chuckle and then turned to Liekki. "It says Top of the World, Gavonis City. I got it from the gift shop in the building I work on all the way up on the 400th floor observation deck. Maybe if we can get a stable link to this world in the future I can get you one.. Or the one from the space elevator that is Gateway to the Heavens. you can see pretty far from there."

"Well, you said you were about six feet tall," Ronan said, "and I'm a bit taller than that. Trust me, it feels a little odd on my end too, to be looking down at you instead of up. You're still taller than Liekki, though."
"400 floors?" Liekki asked, surprised. "That's a pretty tall building!"
"Come on, you said you wanted to see the city, right?" Ronan asked, shifting his weight back and forth restlessly. "It's right over there; let's go!"

"Oh yes well lots of things go on in the tower, And portal testing happens at the top because it generally keeps it out of the general interference from all the stuff in the city far below. The top of the tower also is structurally designed to be an antenna of sorts into portal space. Meaning if I had the power I could get there but that is what I lack." He shrugged a bit and took a few more moments to get used to being short before giving a nod to Ronan. "lets go see the city, I figure this will let me see everything now rather than getting unwanted attention. And if anybody asks about my shirt I dunno I will claim its some form of elvish or something."

"It gets the main test labs for teleportation up above the other uses in the city below protecting them from outside influence... But if the planning gets approved a taller mage tower will be built in a neighboring city. My world has four of them and soon there will be a fifth... And this one will have another space elevator with primary research actually happening on an orbiting station." He continued to follow the pair towards the city, Wondering just how big this city would be. Since he had arrived into a forest with his portal he did not expect a large central city something more suburban, Not too unlike where he grew up. "So what is the name of this city?"

"Ahh I will have to bring this information home, If I get home." he replied and smiled back at the pair, following closely as to not get lost in the crowded city. Though it was more than not wanting to be lost but also that he worried if he got too far from Ronan he would spring back to his original size and did not want to cause that commotion. "Sadly I have no clue how well my magic will work when in this size of if I should even risk it, No clue if using my magic while shrunk by earth magic user energy would cause me to cross the streams and cause something bad." Erein shrugged a bit and wondered what would happen if he did accidentally end up normal size... "I am guessing even among your fellow magic users I should not reveal my origins."

Ronan frowned. "Shrinking has never affected the use of magic before," he said thoughtfully. "But then, no one's ever shrunk a giant alien before, either. Did you ever say what species you were? 'Cause I'm pretty sure you called us humans at some point, which pretty well means that you're not one."
"As for telling them where you're from," Liekki said, "it's really up to you. No idea how they'd react, though."

"Species is Targallian, Not the most original but its what we call ourselves. I do imagine outside of scale and our long life spans though it seems we are biologically similar just due to the shape. Guess its a good thing I am not green or something." He replied with a chuckle and kept checking out the city as he walked with them to the magic society place "I am kind of curious though does size impact the power of the magic? As in when you are tiny does a fireball have less impact against someone than when you are full sized? Or is it still just as potent?" Erein was of course rather curious about how magic worked with scale, And thought of the funny image of a tiny person launching a fireball as big as they would at normal size.

"enchanted brooms? wouldn't a robotic vacuum be just as good at cleaning hard wood and tiled floors?" he replied with the strange question, Erein not really aware that they likely meant flying brooms as such a concept would not exist on his world where anti-gravity technology was highly common. "So I guess as we walk what should I know about human culture that is vital or I will get found out? Other than not doing anything that could strip off the magic that is keeping me at this size."

"Flying on brooms? seems like a rather unstable platform." He rummaged through his pocket and pulled out a device like a smart phone and poked through his photo gallery app until he found it. "This is how I fly, Though I can also set it to stay at ground level. I guess I would cause quite a stir if I teleported in with it." He added and then showed them his anti-grav vehicle that looked like a strange cross between an Apache helicopter and an F-117 Nighthawk. The angles harsh but no indication of any sort of drive system save for a pair of glowing crystals poking out of two small ports on the back. "But I am interested so when we get somewhere safe to do so I would love to see flying brooms."

"Oh she goes pretty fast, Though anything much above 105 I have to pass over control to the automatic systems. But it will do about Mach 7 in area that allow it and when on auto pilot." He replied back and smiled at them. "Hmm that could be interesting to try and fly a broom, I have never flown anything without a control stick before. I am guessing brooms have a form of mental component to controlling them." Erein could only imagine the laughing when someone sees a mage that cannot fly a broom. If he could ever open a normal portal between here and home and back again at will he would have to repay the pair with a flight in his vehicle.

"That is fast," Liekki said with a low whistle. Ronan, however, looked somewhat disinterested, probably because he did not know what the terms Erein was using meant.
"We're here," he said, entering a building that looked like an old library. He greeted the librarian, an older looking man, with a "Hullo, Archie. Same as usual."
"Who's your friend, boys?" Archie asked.
"This is Erein," Liekki introduced him. "Don't worry, he's not sanhechi."
The librarian nodded, handing Ronan an ornate key. The young wizard led the two others to a small unassuming wooden door. He inserted the key and unlocked it. "Sanhechi is our word for the magicless, by the way," he said over his shoulder as the key vanished and the door opened. On the other side was a room that could never have fit inside the building.

"Is it safe to say that non-magic users would cause a problem if they saw this place?" Erein asked merely being curious since such a thing had not been a society issue back home in some time now. Sure a rare few did not trust magi but since the very world was powered by the fusion of magic and technology most had come to learn its benefits. Erein decided to keep his mouth shut and just keep following Ronan, Knowing he might say something that does not fit well into this world's magic circle. "Whoa... So you can make a space bigger on the inside, you should certainly try it with tents. Makes camping so much easier, And best of all since its a sub dimension it does not even get hot and humid inside.." He still could not help but notice it was quite a roomy space, though he could likely not stand up at normal size and would also scare their friends if he were normal size he figured.

"They sure would," Liekki said. "They don't even know magic exists, so..."
Ronan chuckled at the alien's naivety. "It's not larger on the inside," he said. "We just stepped through a portal. It's actually one of the few things made by a wizard, mage, and sorcerer working together, and that might be why it's lasted as long as it has with no indication of slowing down any time soon. A wizard set up the portal, a fire mage crafted the key, and a sorcerer enchanted both key and door."
"Anyway, this is the magic hub," Liekki said, figuring that Erein probably wouldn't be too interested in the door's history. A pair of wizards zoomed overhead on broomsticks, and Liekki pointed to them. "See, there's some fellows riding enchanted brooms."

"Oh wow, Is there a plan to one day show the proof of magic to the people in a controlled manner? I only ask since they will find out eventually and that will get ugly." He replied remembering his own history classes and how his own world had a few riots when magic manifested itself publicly. Though he was thankful that was so long ago that now people just accepted. "Hmm So we are still on Earth? Or are we in an alternate dimension? Portals can lead almost anywhere." The brooms going by surprised him almost making him jump. "Whoa, I doubt I could operate one of those. no control stick no anti-gravity crystals or elemental wind drives."

"We're still on Earth," Ronan said. "But we're somewhere that's extremely hard to access except by the use of one of those doors like we just came through." He pointed to similar doors ringing the round room. "The other side of those doors are situated all over the place."
Leikki disappeared for a short while, returning with three ordinary looking brooms. "You should try it," he said, holding one out to Erein. "It's fun, really. Just don't fall off."
Ronan took one of the other two brooms, mounting it and sitting sidesaddle as it hovered a few feet from the ground. "Don't laugh," he said. "It may seem like a girly way to ride, but sitting astride is far more uncomfortable. No one rides like that unless they've added stirrups, which only look ridiculous."
