"So its like an airport for magic doors. Guess that's why its a hub.". He replied and watched Ronan mount the broom pondering how to even start the thing. He could find no linking crystals... The well experienced portal mage was perplexed. "Letnme guess just think about flying?"

"More or less," Liekki said, setting his own broom on the floor. "Don't worry, I had a hard time figuring them out at first too." He held Erein's broom horizontally at a little higher than knee level. "Sit down, and I'll help you, all right?"

"How hard can it be, Think happy thoughts . its only flying.". Of such would be famous last words before a potential moment of comedy. As he sat down on the broom the thing took off at full speed and started to bounce off a few walls as a rather terrified alien mage hung on with white knuckles. "Hey where is the throttle on this thing?"

"Well, that's new," Ronan commented lightly as he and Liekki sped after him with their own brooms. They both grabbed Erein's broom with one hand, steering him back towards the ground. After a bit of wrestling with it, they managed to make it hover in place about five feet above the ground.
"Sorry," Liekki said apologetically. "I've never seen a broom react that way to a new rider."

"Ahhhh" He let out as the broom ran into another wall and then bounced him into the ceiling before he noticed it slow down when his new friends managed to corral the wild tool. Erein was completely startled by the experience and soon stopped thinking about flight and hopped off the broom and landed with a bit of a thud. It was possibly one of his most scary experiences ever. "And you use those things every day? Maybe its magic is not one hundred percent compatible with my own or maybe I am mentally still eighty feet tall and weighing several hundred tons in the terms of this world. Meaning the broom's magic was compensating for mass that did not exist." He commented with a shrug pondering if he had to try and think small.

"I think you're trying too hard," Ronan said, flying lower and dismounting.
Liekki followed suit. "I think that's enough for one attempt," he said softly. "Unless you want to try again, we can just stay on the ground for now. Although... if you want to go outside, the opening's up there." He pointed to a hole in the top of the conical roof of the building.

"Hmm that hole is not too far away I could poke my head out it at my normal size." He commented with a slight chuckle thinking about what people might think if they saw a giant alien mage poking his head out of their broom hut. "I will try again and try and think more naturally this time around. I mean its my first time flying something that requires direct mental control and is not a portal." Erein got back on the broom and this time started off slow and sure enough he began to move about the room with his feet only a few feet off the floor. The flight was smooth instead of erratic though he did still bump into a few things it was clear the shrunken giant was learning. "Say if I were holding this broom would it scale up with me back to my normal size? I think a giant on a broomstick would be quite the image... Sadly I bet even the hub is not ready for that." He commented with a chuckle and gradually moved up a bit higher to maybe fifteen feet off the deck. He would take baby steps this time.

"You're tall enough you could poke more than your head out," Ronan replied. "If the hole was big enough, anyway." The two boys followed him to make sure he did not crash again or anything. "No, it wouldn't grow with you," Ronan told him, "unless I cast a separate spell on it to make it grow. And you're right, they probably aren't ready for a sight like that, especially considering how erratic your flight path has been so far."
"You're doing a lot better now," Liekki said.

"Ahh interesting, And I kinda think thats too bad nobody is ready to know magic flows on other planets. My people would love to find out we are not alone." Erein decided to keep his current altitude for the time being and just kept doing loops around the room, He could feel the broom becoming more stable maybe as it adapted to him or him to it. "Hmm you are right at my full size I could damage a small building if I bumped into it. Which I am guessing would not go over well for first contact. Anyway moving higher." Once again the mage increased his height from the floor his head almost brushing the ceiling now but still not exiting the hole in the roof, He realized from estimating the height that this hold would not even be waist high for his normal scale. "So I would have to get permission but whenever my ride arrives in a few months did you two want to see my home world?"

The two boys flanked him on either side until it seemed he'd gotten the hang of it.
"Only if you can be one hundred percent sure we could get back home again," Liekki said.

"Oh well a ship is one hundred percent sure, portals not so much. I imagine when our explorer vessel arrives that will cause quite a stir anyway. but trust me we are friendly. Just think you will get to see how a giant mage lives.. Hint its by the shore and I have a boat." He replied with a smile and kept flying in circles before easing his way out the opening to see what the whole hub complex looked like. He continued to take things slow and stayed over the roof so if he did screw up he would only fall onto a roof instead of the ground much further away.

Ronan frowned. "Can you direct them to not land in the same place you did? That would likely cause lots of problems... It would be far better to go somewhere far less populated. We can take you there easily enough, of course."
Outside, there was a very large open space, with a medium sized lake not too far off. People could be seen all over, not all of them human. In fact, humans seemed to be the minority here. The roof sloped gently down almost all the way to the ground, and there were some boys sliding down a section of it on what looked somewhat similar to a sled, whooping all the way.
"Well, what do you think?" Liekki asked.

"I think I should be able to do that, I am guessing you are thinking here? Though if they come here we wont be able to make first contact officially I imagine." He started to fly away from the roof but decided to descend with the slope and stay only about ten feet off the ground and as he did he kept his ears open while also observing the fact that non-humans were actually roaming about. "I think this place is pretty amazing, And I am surprised to see non humans. But at least that means they will not be terrified when they find out what I really am... Though the size might still be an issue." He watched the pair still following him and had considered rapid acceleration but decided not to as he did not feel quite ready.

"No, here wouldn't work, actually," Ronan said as the boys followed him. "They wouldn't be able to get in. There's sort of like a magic bubble around here that keeps the sanhechi out and even from seeing this place. They could probably come in through a portal, though, if they knew about them..."
"Well, humans aren't the only ones who know about magic," Leikki said. "But those like ogres and trolls, and other nasty beings, they aren't allowed in here. It was originally constructed as a safe haven. Giants are a rare sight here, though, so I'm sure you'd cause quite a stir."

He pondered for a moment at the last comment as he was considering asking if he could be returned to normal so he could stretch his form a bit in what seemed like a safe accepting place. "So this is a place for friendly magic users, I am guessing that means elves.". He commented with a laugh. "Hmm so I am guessing that is the bad kind of stir ? And that we should get permission before letting people see my true form?"

Phoenix-FireMage In reply to Filanwizard [2014-01-06 01:46:37 +0000 UTC]
"Yes, elves generally are included in the 'friendly' category, though not all of them are," Liekki said. "And it wouldn't necessarily be a bad stir... but you would certainly cause a stir. The smaller folk are usually nervous enough around human sized people, so they'd stay away, except possibly for the more curious ones... I can think of a few people who'd find your stature to be very interesting, however, and you might find that you have several new friends."
"But of course there's always those who don't like to be around anyone larger than themselves," Ronan added.

"Well then I say we do it, No point in side stepping the issue. Naturally I should be small again before heading back to the regular cities but this way the magic users know what to expect when the ship arrives in a few months. I mean eventually someone will have to also warn your defense fleet but that can come in due time." Erein finally accelerated ahead and set himself down in a clearing with a good amount of room but also well in view of everybody just in case Ronan agreed to do the return to normal size thing and then maybe he could just by feel figure out how to change his own size. Which would be quite handy here on Earth, Though if not he would have to always make sure to have someone close by. "Do not worry I will not stomp around the place in fact maybe I will just remain seated on this cleared hilltop, Get a nice look at this hub which I must stay is unique design... And its old I can feel that."

"You want to change back to your natural height?" Ronan asked as the two boys landed beside him.
"I thought you wanted to check to see if your magic shrunk with you first," Liekki said. "It probably did, but shouldn't we check still?" Holding out one hand, he created a fireball about the size of a marble. "Make a fireball this size," he suggested. "That way, even if it didn't shrink with you, it'll still be pretty small."

"Ahh yes lets do that before we surprise them with an 80ft man. But hey at least I am good looking." He commented and did as they suggested and formed a ball of fire like energy in the palm of his hand though it was purple instead of the normal fire color. The important thing being it remained small and did not become the size of a person's head.... Or worse. He then decided to maintain it for a bit to be sure nothing would fluctuate. "So far it seems stable, Should I pull it back or launch it at something to make sure it is what we see and not somehow the same energy just really compressed." This was a fear he had that the visible summon would be small but it would still pack the full sized punch.

Ronan rolled his eyes at Erein's comment.
"Whoa, purple!" Leikki exclaimed. "That's cool. I've never seen a flame like that before. I can make mine go blue at times, but never purple! Go ahead and toss it... just be careful to aim away from any people."

(I shall let you pick if its downsized or if its a pint sized kaboom XD)
Erein nodden and lobbed the fireball at a tree a good 100 yards away. "Well now maybe my magic is different and as such makes different fire. Though I imagine it works all the same. it burns things that need a good burning." He replied and got ready to shield the trio just in case it was a massive explosion. "And impact in three...... two...... One......"

((It shrank.))
The fireball struck the tree, and acted just as should be expected, lighting a small fire, which someone quickly patted out.
"Seems it shrank with you, then," Leikki said. "Good. Catch." With that, he threw his own small fireball in an underhand arc towards Erein, as though he was merely tossing him a regular marble. Ronan instantly took a step to the side.
"You two can play catch all you like," he said, "but I'm not flameproof, so please count me out."

Erein was a bit surprised at first and then reacted and caught the fireball which changed to his purple color once he had a grasp on it and then tossed it back to Leikki with a nice soft throw. He did want want to accidentally launch it too hard and found it very strange it changed color when he had caught it considering it was not his magic that generated it. "I must say I have never done this before, I have used my portal magic for other fun though... But they ban its use in sports claim its not fair to teleport a ball behind the guy guarding a goal."

"Well, that was interesting," Liekki commented as his fireball returned to its normal red color in his hands. Concentrating briefly, he expanded it to slightly bigger than a softball and threw it to the alien mage again. "You've never played catch with fireballs before? Pity. It's quite diverting."
Ronan chuckled. "That does sound unfair," he said.

"Unfair yes but it is my best skill.. Like this.". He held his hand out and a portal opened in front of the fire ball and then opened behind him to which he turned and caught it. Once again making it change color. "See livens things up a bit. Now turn aaround liekki and get ready.". He then threw the fireball away out into an open field and once again into a small portal where it soon exited and neared liekki from the direction he would hopefully be facing.

"Wow, cool!" Liekki exclaimed, turning to catch the fireball. Once more, it changed back to red, but as he concentrated, the flames turned white.
Ronan took a few more paces back. "I can feel the heat from that all the way over here," he protested. "Tune it down a bit, Firehead."
Liekki frowned, but allowed the fireball to return to normal before tossing it to Erein again.

Even Erein stepped back at that much heat, he was primarily spacial manipulation like portals and a few harmful things. When he caught it he made it go away and in its place a darkening orb formed causing a very strong feeling of gravitational pull... Erein hand a micro singularity in his hand. "This is more my speed but cannot really toss these safely, I can return it to fire though."

"Hand held black hole. Or a micro singularity. Its the offensive splinter of portal magics. Both technically center around space time warping. Only with magic its contained... For now.". He commented before unfolding it back into the fireball he started with and started to toss it between both hands. "Let's just say if I did this with the other thing it would be bad."

When he returned the sphere to its previous form, both Ronan and Liekki stumbled a little from the release of gravitational forces. "That was a mini black hole?" Liekki asked, clearly impressed. "Cool!"
"What would have happened if you did that with your singularity thing?" Ronan asked, nodding towards the fireball Erein was tossing around.

"Well Ronan had I lost control and dropped it, rather than a bad case of hot foot and a trip to a healer everything I. Thirty feet would simply no longer exist. That is why I got rid of it so quickly". He replied and then tossed the stable fireball to Liekki. "Portal magi rarely would see combat, not that we have seen a need yet but I would hope my talents would be used for logistics and not harm."

"Ahh well that is just a fireball, Had it been the black hole yea it would have been bad. So far the only attack with one was done on a nuclear power plant. Before we had fusion reactors there was a recorded incident where a fission plant went critical... a plucky magi working as a tech made the reactor go away... saved a whole city. But since then it has been a skill not kept in the open when they saw how effectively it dispersed a problem. In fact use in combat is generally banned." He replied back hoping to ease them in the fact that he would not use it against other people. At least fireballs tended to leave a bit of something for the family. "In a way you could call a magically induced black hole a portal without an exit. With no exit it forms a gravity of its own."

"Yes I am ready, And If you want I can resist standing up for a bit just so that nobody has to face my full size right away." Erein sat on the grass and got ready to be reverted to his normal size, If he could learn how to do this on his own it would come in rather handy here on Earth. Though he had no clue if a portal mage could ever learn to do such magic. "Sometime I will have to learn how to do this size shifting thing so I can alter myself at will."

Quickly, much more so than when he had shrunk, Erein returned to his full height, and the two boys took a few steps back. "Staying seated does sound like a good idea, too," Ronan added as he and Liekki each mounted their brooms and flew up to about eye level.

Erein stayed seated and tried to get a feel for the energy that made him change again. Most interesting was how much smaller the hub looked from his normal scaled angle, And that his new scale he could see more than a few people were looking at him and some were even coming closer to him. it was not something that scared him as he did not see them moving in a manor that appeared threatening. And then felt more assured when he saw Ronan and Liekki up at eye level. "Hmm too bad you did not have those when we first met."
