I dunno why- everytime I see one of our soldiers-and it doesn't matter how he looks like- I feel... for a lack of words to describe this feeling- I just feel warm.....
and it really is a good shot...!!

I volunteered for a bit of work with the Israeli soldiers a couple years back, it was so nice seeing all the soldiers!

I really like the mood captured here with the lighting - difficult yes, but I think it paid off. I think my only criticism is that the red badge on his epaulette is very bold and kind of detracts from his face. While I think, being that he's a soldier, the insignia is relevant, it seems to be the sharpest detail in the frame. It really is a great shot though - if he was wearing black it could be straight out of The Matrix

You have very good focus on this particular shot. Shooting into shadows is very difficult, and it's obvious that this was spontaneous. I would probably suggest though that you look at this from the aspect of the "Rule of Thirds". If it was to be more of a portrait, you might want to zoom in on it and put his eyes at the upper 1/3 line, and maybe boost the shadow a bit in your photo processing, software.

Thank you for your critique. I think I will add a few little changes to it.

Awesome pic!!
Great effect with the light on his face, but also on the shoulder... brings up a very special meaning to it...

What works for me is the lighting--definitely the strongest thing you have going in this image. It's dramatic, though it might be a bit on the harsh side; some of the highlights are mildly blown out. The pose is nice, as has been mentioned, and the only thing that doesn't work for me is the composition. I think the picture would have benefited from having the camera pointed slightly more downwards and a little to the left, so his hands didn't get cut off.

I like the expression on his face, the pose, the background, but I think the lighting might be a little too harsh? It's a good shot though.
Did you like Israel? What other parts did you go to?

I think I can see what you mean. It was almost midday when I took it I think so the sun was very bright. But I tried giving it a nice contrast with with the shadows.

Yes, I can tell. It's still a good shot.
