I still feel like I should work into this a bit more, but it's taken so long to finish and I should work on other things too ^^

From lineart:
I did do a digital version, but never quite finished
For the traditional original I wanted to keep a more analogical colour scheme and also have it at twilight time.

The original artwork was created using alcohol based markers and water-soluble coloured pencils on A3 Bristol board.

I hope people enjoy it.

Thank you for the well thought out critique.
In particular, the lack of contrast between the different elements is probably one of the weaker parts of my art as a whole that I need to work to improve.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the piece though and hopefully I'll be able to work and improve on the points you've raised in future pieces

Lots of people already wrote about the detailing and the textures, so I won't go into them myself. They are indeed really good, especially for traditional art!

What I would say is that your values are all too similar on the different planes of the picture, and this prevents the image from having any sense of depth. I feel like the balloons, the mountains, the cages and the lamp posts are all on the same plane as the teapot. It makes it flat, which is a shame considering how gorgeous the colours and details are.
Ideally from what I understand, the shadows/values should have the most contrast at the forefront of the image, with the range reducing as you get further away into the background.

There's a few minor niggles with the composition (some tangents touching, which again messes with the idea of depth, like the top of her glass and the curved path, makes it look like that curve is touching the frill of her dress.)

On a final point, everything seems super bright in the picture! (and although that's a good thing in one way, because it makes the picture interesting) I'm getting the idea that it's a candle/lantern lit scene but I can't work out what the light source is xD

That's all from me!

Thank you for the great crit. I really need to work on improving the tonal values in my work to help give it more depth.
You've highlighted some good points and hopefully I can improve on them in the future ^^

Yw C: I had things like that recently pointed out to me in my art, and it's really helped me think about my compositions and tonal values. I still find it such a massive pain in the ass.. Ordered that 'light and colour' book, hopefully it'll have some interesting stuff in there!

I thought it was pretty creative and talented at first. But upon further review of the other critiques, I discovered... that it's not digital!

This surprised me alot, as it changed everything I previously thought about it! It takes amazing dedication to pull off textures, which is why many people use digital programs: because of the preset textures. Your ability to nail most of the textures (with just a couple exceptions) is stupendous. The cloth in the skirt appears to actually have a cotton feel, and the man's pants look to be a rougher, denim/burlap fabric. Pretty awesome.

A couple exceptions to the texture being remarkable, although it doesn't exactly make this a bad picture at all, would be the water and the mountains. Both of which look a little too smooth. However, you obviously intended to approach them with an artistic twist. (Which sort of clashes with the realistic aspects. I guess this can be a good or bad thing.)

Probably my favorite part of this picture would have to be the railing. The lighting on it is great, and it seems to gleam with almost a magical aura to it. And to think you did it traditionally, not digitally. Pretty darn spankin' awesome.

First of all, like someone else already said, I thought this was digital work. With so many digital works around this site, it's always a great surprise to see traditional artists like you with this much talent. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart" />

There are so many details in this image, I must raise my invisible hat to you for your patience! All those curves, the flowers, the fishes coming out from the teapot and raising to the skies.. the stars... ohh, there's so many details! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/f/f… " width="18" height="17" alt="" title="I think I've fainted." />

There's also so much originality in this image. For example the candle- like balloons. I love those!

One other detail I find interesting is the cages. They have flowers in them, but also something else - is that something.. alive? A bunny or a bird? (I suggested a bunny, because there seems to be some of them in the image.. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/g/g… " width="17" height="15" alt="" title="Giggle" /> )

Well, so much praise for you! But I also have to say the following:
Like *warrior-of-dream said, her face looks a bit off. Maybe if the fan was closer to her face, then perhaps it would look better.. I don't know for sure, it's not anything big really, and I don't know much about anatomy anyway haha..

All in all, this is wonderful work, and I think I found yet another Deviant to add on my Watch-list! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart" /> Keep it up!

Firstly I want to saw I was shocked that you drew it with traditional media I thought I was digital.
You have great skilled with traditional media.
Shading on skin look fantastic, folds and for exmaple metal effect on cages are very detailed.

I not expert but for me anatomy is very good maybe her face looks a bit too long on right side. But it is small mistake.
Paters and colored on them suit to themselve very good like gold and green or fiolet on skirt with blue on her dress, bg it look like from fairytales ^^

Detiales on whole are work on perfect way, your picture let spend whole time looking only on small elements and admire it.

It has very big impression on me.

If you plan to draw more picture like this I can tell with your imagination, idea and technical skills you ahve bright future e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart" />

Originality of your picture is on very high level, you show normal tea time scene but you gave it more impact , color life and magic. Shape of things like cages, her glass,
