is a trendsetter! XD She made an Inuyasha piece called "Kagome Is", which is not only well-drawn and funny, but supports one of my favorite things--canon. Firestar loves canon and will always support that which is ACTUALLY IN CHARACTER. Anyway, the idea was contagious and other artists made similar pieces for other Inuyasha characters. Eventually, it spread to other fandoms, such as Metroid and The Phantom of the Opera. I believe is doing a Danny Phantom piece, and she was nice enough to point me in the direction of 's "Character Is" journal, where she graciously leaves the project open to anyone who wants to participate. That can be found here: [link]So here's my "Sam Is" piece. I think Sam is a really cool character, so hooray for her. I also think canon is awesome. Hooray for canon! *throws confetti*.
This was done in a B pencil and colored on Photoshop Elements, and it seemed to take forever, but Firestar had plenty of time this week to work on it, since she now is distinctly lacking a job. XD
Thanks to for opening her project and giving me permission to do this, and thanks to for bringing it to my attention! Hooray for cool people. XD
Sam Manson, Danny Fenton/Phantom, Dash Baxter, Tucker Foley, and all related elements belong to Mr. Butch Hartman; the "Character Is" project is the brainchild of ; this "Sam Is" piece belongs to me, Firestar9mm.

I am so glad someone did Sam is! I love this. Especially the "I won't die for your Mary Sue" panel.
Most people bash Sam because they want to be Danny's girlfriend and therefore, Sam must die. I mean, COME ON! I'm a fangirl, but nonetheless a decent one. I just verbally glomp people on forum posts and that's it! I don't kill people off so I can make-out with Danny.
I also have a deep, respectful love for canon. I hate people that mess with the entire continuity of the show so their pairings can become a reality.

look i really hope you dont hate me for this comment. I agree that is sam in a nutshell but dating dash, tucker, etc. being emo and ocs its fandom and i just shows that people have an imaginative side. If my comment offended you i'm sorry

I'm not offended at all. But I don't in the least agree with that, and I'll tell you why: Those tiny details that go against canon tend to accumulate, and when they do, you are left with someone who in no way resembles our beloved canon characters. If you're writing about things that Sam just plain wouldn't do, then you are not writing about Sam. You're writing about someone else in a Sam disguise. And that's not right or respectful to the character. Same goes for Danny, Tucker, Dani, or any of the other characters. In anything. If an author wants to do that, they should write about someone else and not completely change a character's personality to fit what they want to do. That's not being imaginative. It's being unfair to the character's established personality. Just like I wouldn't like it if someone told me to wear pink and listen to pop music, I'm sure these characters wouldn't like being told to do something that goes against everything they are as a person.
It's possible to be original and write and draw interesting things without destroying the personalities of the canon characters. I just wish more people respected Danny, Sam and Tucker for who they are, instead of trying to turn them into what they aren't, or worse, stealing their personalities or abilities and putting them into a so-called "original character" which is really just a blatant rip-off of canon except with a different outfit and color scheme. If an author or artist has to eat up canon to write something that they consider "imaginative" and "original", then they're trying too hard.

I agree a little bit with both of you. I'm a shipper, and love to expiriment with pairings, but I don't get how some people can just make Sam go crazy over a character she's never liked before without at least an attempt to explain it.
And I agree. I'm sick of the people who want Sam to die just so their OC can date Danny.

I LOVE the panel with the whole sam wont drop dead for your lame oc thing. I mean COME ON fangirls! Cartoons are MENT to like EACH-OTHER. I really like your panel with Sam being an individual and free spirit too. Sam's dress looks really cool in that panel!

Ah, something that comes to Sam's defense for once. Okay, i'll admit I avoid the conflicts around here as much as possible, so i'm not really entitled to that first statement, but.. you get my point.

I try to avoid conflict as well--but I cannot abide people who bash characters. That is just unfair to them--all they can be is themselves, just as we are. People are always screaming about how they are shunned and unaccepted, and yet they can't even extend the same courtesy to characters, let alone fellow artists or...people. It upsets me deeply, it really does. And poor Sam--she is obviously a character Mr. Hartman crafted with a lot of care, and so much of other people's hatred of her comes from their own misconceptions and social castes, and they seem to especially hate her simply because she is close to Danny. And that is just wrong. Why on earth would anyone bash Danny, Tucker or Sam? Mr. Hartman created them each with their own point, and it was obviously a labour of love. These detractors are of course entitled to their own opinion, but to vocally rant about it, rudely and with no point? How dare they?
....Sorry, I think I lapsed into a rant there....whoops!

It's true, and I *did* rant abt it myself in a secured LJ post.
I suppose there's nothing wrong with wanting Danny to your virtual cartoon self if you're THAT obsessed with him - but you don't HAVE to create drawings of Sam being bashed up.
Not only is it a tad unneccessary, it's insulting to the SAM FANS more than anything else. People like me, and my sister who doesn't even ship DxS, agreed that was rather mean [we're both very admiring of Sam's personality and character too, y'see. xD]
Okay, but I shall stop here in case I get slammed back for anything offensive I might've typed.. which I don't think I have, but.. ><

I'm in total agreement on that, too--I think Sam's a very caring character, and passionate about what she loves, which is hardly a crime--rather, it's admirable. If authors want to write *shudder* Mary Sues or OCs or whatever running amok and making Danny fall madly in love with them, they can do so on their own time without fear of persecution, but it's when they start attacking others that they forfeit their rights to such behavior, in my book.
And my book is the only one I read XD

well, i'm more worried about inking and colouring them but in my opinion the more opinions you can get the better, Ok, so i have
Pregnant, rockstar, Evil (while not posessed) for the Not catagory
and "get danny into trouble" for the what she is/does catagory
but thats only half of what i need, darn it i'm gunna end up making them single panel slides instead of a full strip just because i dont have enough, any other ideas that you have (if you decide not to extend) would be greatly appreciated
Also i think i might do a "not" date quan panel after the time paulina started going out with danny, who became popular so the popular people kicked quan out and quan started trying to date her, what do you think?

"Pregnant" is a great one, though, I am so sick of Pregnant-Sam fics. She's a modern woman and I doubt she'd suddenly go all maternal on anything but that flour sack....

Ohhh... the rock band pictures..... they hurt so much! if there was an "I am so stupid" emoticon i would put that up for forgetting those, and i think that one could be quite simple too.... you had 12 including the intro 1, i think a plain bog standard 1 intro and 8 panels should suffice for my version, thanks for reminding me of that 1, i would have been kicking myself when i remembered the band pictures if i hadnt had 1, also anyone else with sam is/is nots, feel free so tell me, or hoard them and make one yourself! i must go off and start some sleeping now, more lectures in a few hours! (9 am start *shudder*)

This is supposed to be "completely in character" but the whole "Sam does NOT like Dash", "Sam loves Danny and would do ANYTHING for him", and "Sam does NOT love Tucker" things are totally based on opinion...I just want to point that out...because even Steve Marmel and Mr. Hartman did not discount Tucker/Sam...
But other than that, it's a good comic and capture's Sam very well. You've inspired me to make one of these things.

Well, of course anything's possible in life. However, based on canon evidence from the series, it's very obvious that Sam is devoted to Danny and would shed her heart's blood for him if he needed her, and his devotion to her is also becoming more apparent. It's something deeper than other crushes (for instance, Sam was horrified by any kind of intimacy with Dash; also, there is little to no evidence of a Tucker/Sam relationship; theirs is a strong but strictly platonic friendship), and so I must respectfully disagree with you. This is "completely in character" and in canon.

Actually, there is quite a bit of evidence support Tucker/Sam. For instance, in Parental Bonding, although Tucker was not at first willing to give up Valerie for his date to ask out Sam, after a little...ghostly improvising...he seemed rather excited to go out with her. (Probably because he thought Sam looked good at the dance - there was Danny/Sam at the end of the episode however.) I'm not denying the evidence of D/S on the show. There is some evident. However it does not quite mean that all other possible pairings and the evidence to support them are discredited. There's other evidence to support Tucker/Sam but I don't want to bore you with that. (And I'm not personally a Dash/Sam shipper...but, I know some people who are.)
So, again, I do disagree with your statements, but hey. It's your opinion and I respect it.

No worries. This was colored on Adobe Photoshop Elements (actually, it was sketched on paper and everything in color, from inking on, was done in Elements. If I remember correctly, this picture was done before I got Paint Shop Pro).

Oooh. Do you like Photoshop better than Paint Shop Pro? PSP 9 is what I'm currently using, but it can get annoying sometimes. I heard Photoshop was better, but I know they have different techniques for inking that aren't too my liking...
