Description
The Avenger-class standard Assault Battleship is the most numerous and reliable mainstay of the Union Fleet. Its modular design allows for quick construction, replacement of components and servicing, especially during the recent resource shortage crisis. Commanded by a crew of 900, featuring banks of anti-proton beam emitters, and possessing warp capability, this class of ship is a formidable opponent.

Due to antigrav repulsors in the wing the Avenger-class is capable of turning on its side and entering the atmosphere, maintaining a hovering position over targets. It is this design feature that allows the Union Government to watch over its citizens and to keep the populace in line.

All ships of this type and larger possess a neutron beam (shown here) designed to obliterate organic targets and leave surrounding facilities intact for capture, as materials have become scarce. Enemy fleets have nicknamed this particular class of ship "the manta" in reference to its large "wings", and the forward mandible-like structure overhanging the beam emitter.
