The idea itself is rather cute and it has some potential in there but it does need refinement along a number of aspects. I'm sure you're aware of proportional/anatomical errors so I won't go into that right now. As you mentioned you tried a new way of shading so I'll touch on that instead to help you along that road.

With rendering experimentation is good but no matter how good the rendering is it can only be as good as the drawing underneath. Remember that first and foremost. I like this type of style you have going though which looks like cell-shading but a bit of a step up with some gradient transitions and what not. It has a charm to it and it can potentially be powerful. I definitely like the little sprites flying around the two characters as well they are super cute.

What I'll mention as being a top focus for this piece is the forms and light source. There doesn't seem to be a uniform light source throughout the piece which is evident in the different shadows at strange angles along the clothing among other areas. But what stands out the most to me is the forms of the shading. Specifically with the two pillar like whips in the background. They have these smooth curves and hard edges to them but the shading on the objects themselves suggests form and twisting. That is not evident with the contours of the shape though which gives it a very strange look. Another area that sticks out is the red pattern on the girls hair which looks like a hard round brush tapped once or twice on that spot. Make sure you take into account the forms of the hair and how the areas may curve around tufts and what not.

I have to second what AmmoBot-HB already said - the idea of this piece is quite good, but the execution is a bit lacking in terms of proper technique.

I would strongly recommend observing and drawing from real life, and learning how to construct the human figure from memory with believable perspective and form.
     It's all about the mastery of the fundamentals, starting with drafting 3D forms in space (cubes, cylinders, pyramids etc) much like a 3D modeling program, then moving onto the surface things like lighting, rendering, texture and all that fun stuff.

I can't recommend observing and drafting 3D forms enough. It's the absolute key to drawing success. 

On another note I actually like your bright colors and characters, I just wish the drawing underneath was more solid so that I could appreciate them without being distracted by drawing problems ; v ;

Great work! I love your vibrant colours, although I think the green in the background doesn't mach too well with the rest of the colour scheme. I think you rendered the characters beautifully, and the vines in the background make for a very unique and appealing composition. Overall awesome ^_^

So colorful! Normally such saturated colors don't go well together but this looks great! The downside to that is that there is no focal point. The eye meanders around the drawing with nothing in particular that draws attention. If the characters are the focal point, they should stand out from the background. Differences in detail and value can "push" the background back and bring your characters forward. Your style is really nice! Keep it up!

I love how colourful this is and they certainly make such a cute couple in my opinion. The way you designed their clothes as well as included such a great amount of detail in the background is awesome! ^^

First impressions of your drawing is that it is very bright and colorful. The colors just seem to leap from the paper and grab your attention. You really have done a nice job of putting your lighter colors near your darker ones creating some wonderful contrasts, especially between the two characters.  Those tendrils are very interesting and are drawn and colored very well and if I'm not mistaken seem to make a heart shape behind the two characters. It's as if you may be insinuating that there is a much deeper emotion at play between the two characters. The details in the clothing is amazing. You obviously have a wonderful imagination and it is clearly on full display here.

The one thing that does seem to throw me off just slightly is the little round objects. They seem to add to an already busy drawing unnecessarily. Other than that I think your work is really wonderful and an absolute delight to look at. Keep up the great work.

This is a very bright, colourful piece! I like the little cotton poofballs and the little black demon counterparts, they add an amusing border to the characters. The shape of the tendrils curling behind them is really nice and makes me think of magic or a fantasy land. All of the little details you've included look awesome. I love the lines on the girls' outfit, the little bell in the bottom left corner, the furry detail on the guy's outfit, and their eyes. The folds on the girls red sleeve are also really well done, they make the fabric look soft and shiny and it looks like it's being pulled downwards.

The biggest thing that jumps out to me is that even though this piece is very colourful there isn't a lot of contrast. I think darkening the background behind the characters would help them pop out even more. Try placing a black and white filter above your image as you're working and turn it on from time to time to see how your shadows, midtones, and highlights are working. If you want to skip this step and learn right from the colours, try squinting your eyes while looking at your piece and see which parts stand out to you the most. For me it's the tendrils and the outfit of the character on the left, the one on the right and his skin tone both meld into the background. 

The expressions on these characters and the way you've drawn their hands are probably my favourite parts along with the tendrils behind them. He looks so disinterested in everything, she looks so happy to be with him, and the little characters around the edges both mirror these reactions. I like the way you've got their fingers intertwined, I think you drew the hands very well. And as I said before, I love the shape of the tendrils, I think they add to the composition. Keep up the great work!

THis is a rather nice picture here. I like how you've got the the entire background filled with colors, not to mention characters, and the two main ones staring out. They look colorful as well, and have interesting designs on them. I like the lighting in this and the shading as well. The proportions look good, and the entire piece looks good. Great job on this.
