is there a way to convince you to do a tutorial for texturing. I have a couple of models that I have no idea how to add texture to

Hi-poly is a name for Β something what's not going to be used in a game, something over million polys, like sculpt in Zbrush, there is no polys limits.Β
Low-poly on weapons and characters depends on what kind of game is it. Characters can be starting from 1000 - 2000 for mobile games and easily reaching 50 000 tris and more for fancy next-gen game. I'd say standard range for most games is Β is 10.000 +-
For weapons range is pretty wide as well can be 100 or Β 5k or even more. Β Basically everything what goes in a game can be called low-poly.

In cases like this, do you modify the concept and project it on the mesh, or do you paint it from scratch?

FirstKeeper In reply to Tumhoy [2014-01-05 01:41:11 +0000 UTC]
I used Β projection with concept for the texture base. In case of weapons like sword it's really simple since it's relatively flat.

Really cool! Could I just ask, did you make the model in Maya first then imported to Zbrush or did you do it visa versa?
Also, did you texture in maya?
Love your work dude, keep it up!

You can get all answers on your questions from free book with tutorial and wip for this sword here: [link]
Since it's an old tutorial, I can tell that I use 3D coat for last year instead of trial attempt of using Mudbox

I'm not sure so I just thought I'd ask to settle my curiosity - do you use normal maps for any of your models or do you rely purely on your [amazing] diffuse for the details?

FirstKeeper In reply to Port-Seven [2011-12-07 19:13:21 +0000 UTC]
Most of my models have only diffuse, I'm old-school 3d artist.

Every time I look at your work, it makes me feel so ashamed of Blizzard Entertainment for not hiring you. This sword model (and especially the texture) is better looking than every single weapon in World of Warcraft.

Have I already told you that you are epic? One way or the other, you are epic. Incredible nice job. I showed that to the other students in my class and we where all impressed. Congrats.

Man, I wish I could go all diffuse, I need to model stuff out to give me a hand when it comes to texturing it.
Great job on it!
