Description
This is an art trade for Cooley , and I hope she likes itThe delay was caused from changing the concept from the original image I had in mind. At first, I had trouble decided whether or not to sketch out BladeWind in her wild form, or her anthro form. The first picture had the anthro BladeWind in flight with a dragon chasing her. But I scraped the idea as it was not the quality I desired.
In this art, I combined the two features; I love the wild BladeWind because she's primal and ferocious. However I like the physique of the anthro BladeWind. Combining these concepts led to this!
I had also wanted to include a type of blur to indicate speed, but it ruined the detail and didn't quite look right.
Enjoy!

Everyone has their own style, and each one looks great. We all have the art envy; I see some very, very talented traditional artists, I can't wrap my brain around how the heck they can do so well. Take Bobbyrock for instance - this guy is a million times better than me.
But you can think of it this way: looking at great art helps you to incorporate different styles into yours, and to brainstorm ideas
Oh, and thank you for the comment ^^- I'm quite flattered you think I'm talented.

Haha, not really. I was thinking about making a comic about me being a bad artist and fighting my art tools of doom, lol. I have a sketch of me throwing punches at a floating pencil... Quite interesting, lol. But, yea, I still don't know what to do... I think it's because I haven't watched any anime lately. Maybe I'll go watch some (I've got millions I haven't seen yet on my computer)

I'm jealous! I really want to get some anime (undubbed...subbed is it?) to watch. Not this 4 Shame Entertainment crap.
I'm drawing an anime based drawing for my 4000. It's called "4000 Kiri'Ban' " haha get it? Ban? Kiriban? Heh...lol

Hahaha! Oh well, I got all my anime for free (unlicenced anime, which makes it free) And I'm currently about to watch an anime called Canvas 2. It's pretty good. It's about... well artwork!
The main character is a pretty young girl that is in love with a guy that stopped drawing because of something that happened a really long time ago. And he's a teacher that teaches at a school, and he meets his old friend from a long time ago, and uhhh.... Well, there's just so much. I really can't tell you what's happening without spoiling it for you (and I hate spoiling things for other people)

Even if you told me, I would have no idea what you're talking about lol
I used to go to a particular website that had anime on it - full length volumes and everything! Currently I think it's been removed for the time being. But there was this one series called Orguss: Volume 2 that was really out of this world. Very cool anime.
Landlock was alright; the plot is overused (a guy has supernatural powers, doesn't know it...meets up with his enemy who has similar powers....these people are after him for his powers, then a huge mecha monster comes along and tries to destroy the land etc). The art is grade C being cel-shaded and all.
I wanted to see the trailer for X, but my browser wouldn't load it lol.

Oh, you should check out an anime called Mai-Otome! It's based off the anime Mai-Hime. And uhh, it's kick ass! In both series, they have the same characters, but each character has a different role in each of them. It's pretty cool! I haven't seen Mai-Hime yet, but Mai-Otome kicks butt!

Thank you! There was an idea to have actual lake water reference, but that was green and brown - so it would have blended in way too much with BladeWind. This blue will have to do (That rhymed!)

OH MY GOSH, I LOVE IT!
I'm sorry it took me so long to respond and see this pic. I've been offline a couple of days...but man the wait was worth it! This is one of the finest art-trades I've been a part of. I love her position, I love the composition, the ferocity, and the way she is dragging one claw in the water.
I'm very VERY impressed! I'm going to be bragging about this gift for a while! Thank you so much Ace!!!

You can partially thank a fruit bat for the idea lol. I saw a picture of it skimming the water and got the concept for it.

Thank you so much! I knew this question was coming
All of my work as you might have noticed, is half traditional, half digital (well, sometimes lol). For this one, I used Crayola colouring pencils for BladeWind. The water and the splash were done with a program I have. I had trouble deciding where to put this (category wise) but since I spent more time on the water, it was 60% digital

InuloveGSD In reply to Five-Aces [2006-02-20 01:22:28 +0000 UTC]
So does that mean that the bird-like dragon-like creature was colored with colored pencils and the water was done with some sort of program on the computer? WOW! You're are really good drawer and colorer ^_^ lol I cant color or draw worth crap... But I try my best >.< I need to get some sort of program on my computer so I can make my drawings look pretty, I heard that PhotoShop is a good one and I remember having it on an older computer but for some reason dont have it on our new HP computer >=0 It doesnt even have a floppy disk drive!!! Anywhos what is the program that you're using to color the water?

Five-Aces In reply to InuloveGSD [2006-02-20 01:34:39 +0000 UTC]
Aw thanks ^^- It's still a relatively new concept for me (digital work). I only started about a month ago.
Photoshop is good - it's the ultimate in digital art work. It costs mucho dinero though ;_;
The program I have came with my scanner, called Arcsoft Photo Editor 5.0 So it's supposed to be for photos but...lmao I work with what I've got

InuloveGSD In reply to Five-Aces [2006-02-20 05:42:53 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... Never heard of it... Then again I never really heard of anything people tell me that has to do with computer o-O lol But I guess my dreams for photoshop have been shot down I am kinda poor so I cant waste money on a program for the computer that only I would use and no one else in my family would... *Sighs* Oh well. I guess I will try what you're doing and use my photo programs that I have from my digital camera and webcam to make my drawings look good.

That's the spirit! try new things, you'd be surprised what you can do ^^
This is actually a new style for me. I never draw avian dinosaurs much less regular ones, and I've never used this flight position before or the 'speed' water effect. And it turned out pretty good.
If you need any help with that type of style, I'm always here

Five-Aces In reply to RyokoSeigoKumori [2006-02-20 00:18:41 +0000 UTC]
Thanks I know we use different programs, but I think they'd be similar. The water is just a series of paint/airbrush strokes and using the smudge tool in smooth, one directional movements (in this case, I stroked it to the right for the motion). I can't remember what shape of brush I used, something like a diagonal circle.
The splash was fairly simple and I made it up on the spot XD I used something called a 'shape brush' where I chose a shape that would resemble a splash. Then I used that and overlapped a bunch of them. Then I used brush dots to do the little water drops.
