Description
Howdy everypony! ^^Here's the first of four model sheets that I'm creating in preparation for my Pinkie Pie animation that I'm doing for my 2D Character I course here at the Savannah College of Art & Design.
EDIT (08-12-11): There are no longer four sheets to this puppet. Instead, I combined them all into one massive master sheet found here:
You can find a rough test of the animation here:
Suffice it to say - I've had to watch a LOT of MLPFiM episodes frame-by-frame to figure these rigs out (not that that's a bad thing

I've been thinking of posting a tutorial for a while now - once I'm done with this animation I think I'll spend a day or two and create one for you all

This is wonderful! I don't have any experience with flash puppeting myself so I can't be much use for critique, but I am excited to see the animation when it's finished!
So Webber lets you use any kind of character and animation style, I take it? Does he let you pick sound clips too? I'm so excited for his class, hahah! You're doing awesome work in it!

Normally he forces everyone to stick to traditional paper/pencil - but I talked him into letting me go the Digital Cel route. And he always has a few projects where we pick our own sound clips (my last project of this quarter will be one of those). And glad you like this! ^^

I haven't done paper animation for a few months so I'm excited to return to it myself, hahah. I know little about puppeting and digital cel and would love to learn more though! The class sounds awesome!

Can't wait to see the others. I like how you deconstructed her. Are all these made from scratch or did you use an existing vector? What ever it is, it's sooo clean. :3

They're all made from scratch! Took me about twelve hours from start to finish for this one.

Sooo clean... I tried to do this once, making a puppet of my own but I can never "cut" them right. I'm really impressed. ^^, I eagerly await the rest.

I hear ya! The only way I was able to "cut" these right is from watching the show frame-by-frame and keeping a close eye out for cropping issues when the individual parts don't match up correctly (which is always an inevitability with puppet animation).

Indeed. Making a custom one from scratch too is harder than one you see already moving. But to finally see her in action would be soooo rewarding. I wish you luck on this one. ^^, Looking forward to seeing her finally in colors and partying like no tomorrow. XD

Once you release those fla's, the internet might actually explode...
Also what version of Flash will the fla's be in? I need to know if I have to buy the latest version, pirate a new-but-not-as-new-as-the-newest, or stick with Flash 8!

They'll be released in Flash's CS5 format - and I hope the internet explodes! Imagine how surprised I was when I tried looking for reference on how other bronies have rigged these ponies and not a single artist has attempted it yet!
In fact, searching for "pinkie pie rig" or "pinkie pie puppet" in Google brings up only my DA page lol.

FFUUUUUU-Dammit... Well, I needed to upgrade Flash anyway...
But yeh, you're probably laying the foundations for a thousand flash parodies/tributes to MLP. I can't imagine it'll be too difficult for people to modify the Pinkie Pie rig into other characters, would it?

No it wouldn't! And that's what I'm hoping for. Just like the show, the only thing one would really have to change is the cutie mark, the coloring, and the mane/tail (which is like, two-three hours of extra work). All of the hard stuff lies in the generic pony bases.
Of course, if one wanted to make a male pony from this base they would have to fix the mouth shapes as well... and the eyes (too many lashes)... I'll have to see about doing a male version if there is a high enough demand for it.

Awesome! I'll bet that there's a pro-quality Doctor Whooves short within a year of your rig being released! I won't actually put money on it, but I'm sure it'll happen.
I just realised. Once your rigs are complete and released to the general brony populace, there is nothing stopping people from ponifying EVERYTHING. All they'd need was the audio and these models... That's glorious and horrifying at the same time...

lol - I was actually messing around with the idea of doing a Doctor Whooves one actually.

Nice! It's not like you're short of audio to choose from or willing voice actors...
