Description
Howdy everypony! ^^Here's the first of four model sheets that I'm creating in preparation for my Pinkie Pie animation that I'm doing for my 2D Character I course here at the Savannah College of Art & Design.
EDIT (08-12-11): There are no longer four sheets to this puppet. Instead, I combined them all into one massive master sheet found here:
You can find a rough test of the animation here:
Suffice it to say - I've had to watch a LOT of MLPFiM episodes frame-by-frame to figure these rigs out (not that that's a bad thing

I'm interested to know, how is it you keep the pupils and irises inside the boarders of the eye sockets, even when they're peering off to the side.
I always figured that the head had holes with the eyes behind it, but if you could tell me an easier way to do it, a way to make it so that one object can only be visible when overlapping another, I'd really appreciate it

Sure! The best way to find out would be to download my puppet .FLA (which is linked in the final puppet sheet here on my DA account).
I used a mask layer above the pupils so that they would only show in the whites of the eyes - yet I could still move them however I pleased.

Cool another puppet breakdown sheet.
Thank you for spending the time to show what these should look like. ^_^

A pleasure! I figure that if I show my process then hopefully all of you fellow bronies will feel less intimidated and create your own animations

Nice work. Her color scheme is off, though - too bright.

Yuppers! Good catch! I didn't want to create two separate master sheets - one at a dimmer color and one at a brighter one - because that would have taken another ten hours. Doing it for the eyes took long enough!

I dunno... I think I'd have fun until my roommate finds me the next morning - dead from loss of blood and covered with hundreds of tiny papercuts.

This is a cute way to set up some Pinkie Pie scenes for ourselves, though it'll be nicer with the happier sets (and the body piece). You know, I was also wondering if being depressed could deflate the balloons in her cutie mark too.

These are awsome, and once they are relesed I can start making pony animations (I've done other animations but I havent found the time lately as I'm in my final year so this might just cut down the time needed so i can start animationg again )

I hear ya - the longest part of any Digital Cel/Flash animation is building the dang puppets. I think I should have the final model sheets released by tonight/tomorrow though

This is awesome dude. I don't think I'll use your rig to animate pinkie, I'd just want to see the methods to get her to move, I'd prefer to come up with something new. But this puppet is still immensely helpful and generous of you.

Always a pleasure! Just wait until tomorrow when I post the final sheet! (it's eight pages long) with all of the parts I'll be using in my animation.

in the show, ponies move very well, frame by frame, from the tail to the mane. i know it since i make gifs of them sometimes
in your animation, you have to make it like in the show. complicated, indeed. this sheet would be very utile, indeed

this is awesome. i tried some pony animation my self it took me FOREEEEEEVVVEEER!
but that could be because i am not experienced with Flash yet.
i also used some rigging in a voice sync but just enough to make it ez for me, if i had this it would be a billion times easier for me
if i used this to make an animation i would personaly feel like i cheated, but as a reference guide it will be a great help to see what i need to make to animate something

FlamingoRich In reply to Kerafym [2011-08-10 20:00:29 +0000 UTC]
That's one of the reasons I'm releasing these model sheets (well - the major one being that since all of these parts are nested within the "rigged Pinkamina", being able to see them all enables me to be aware of character acting choices). I figured that juuuuust in case those of you who still want to create the rig yourselves (which would be wonderful experience!) could still use these sheets as reference for doing so.
However - don't feel like you're cheating if you end up downloading the rig in the end. It's the same with 3D animation - some animators just aren't that good at designing parts and rigging a character for animation. What's more important isn't where you got a rig from, but what you do with that rig in the end.
