Description
With the script for the first issue of our comic nearing completion, I thought it prudent to do some final character design studies and sketches and take this chance to introduce the main players for the first chapter. This is design study two of four. This is Jon Krontof, a captain in the Brotherhood of Dawn. He vehemently adheres to the principles taught by the Church of the Living Flame. He's something of a zealot, a true believer. And he's been tasked with hunting down pagans, heretics, and those corrupted by the Abyss, whether that means in body, mind, or soul. This includes Pathfinders such as Laumé, and he's hot on her trail.
This piece was sketched in Procreate using an iPad Pro. It presents original characters, creatures, and the world of In the Shadow of the Ancients. ItSotA is a comic project that I am working on with my husband, based on a tabletop roleplaying game campaign we ran over the course of years. It was a multifaceted saga, that spanned multiple groups of players and branching storylines, and original adventures. We utilized Dungeons & Dragons, Dungeon World, Torchbearer, and Pathfinder.

It's a beautiful, fitting design, and it really does look like it was drawn in pencil on paper!

Thank you!!!
I'm constantly surprised at how good the "brushes" in Procreate emulate the real things. It's been my go-to program for drawing, and even sketching now.
