Like the previous two weeks, I drew various outfit concepts for another of our comic's main character. This time it's the young witch, Vaendra. The first is her standard kind of clothes, the second is her adventuring outfit, the third is a beautiful piece of formal wear (I really wanted to glam her up), and then there she is in her skivvies! She's not as playful as the other two in her underwear. I mean look at that one sad, sagging sock.

Did you just do this full on, or did you do sketches first? Cause when I see the word "concepts" I think that's something you don't usually fully render, until you're happy with your sketches. At least that's how I would do it. I'm assuming you sketched out ideas, then fully rendered what you liked. I should really plan more outfits for Lu'thea:

I do rough sketches sometimes until I have something I'm happy with, but that's not what I did for these. I'm kind of ass-backwards when it comes to making finished "concepts" like this and just dive in head first. I made some basic frames and then designed clothes for her that I thought would be cool. Then I finalized those and colored them pretty quickly. I figured if I messed up, I could always do another one or something. Digital drawing has made me much more brazen in that way. I used to want be a clothing designer when i was younger. In fact, early on in my drawing life, I was designing clothes for sci-fi characters when I fell in love with Star Trek.

Reference isn't bad though. I use reference form time to time. I also like to peruse what other artists and designers have done for inspiration.

Of course! My problem is coming up with something new. I just designed a "present day" outfit for my gunslinger cartoon character--because he's mostly been drawn younger, as a colonel of NC infantry in The Civil War. And "basically" just copied Clint Eastwood's look in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I'll upload it to sta.sh and show you.

She looks great, I do like her adventuring gear, so secretive!
Her formal wear looks good, the lace piece looks fantastic on her! Maybe she's not used to underwear, preferring to be naked instead, or the opposite and almost completely covered at all times? Or she just did not care for how she looked in this particular picture, regardless she looks awesome dishevelled, all made up for the ball or ready to go slay a dragon! Or to just go shopping!

Thank you so much! Her outfits were a lot of fun to design, trying to keep the colors dark without looking too drab.
I'm gonna go ahead and say that she's just not feeling too comfortable out in the open in her undies, even though she looks quite cute in them!

Well not all of us need be comfy in our underwear, yes she looks adorable and I hope she would not blast me to pieces if I said a little sexy too!
