Description
This was a new one - I don't think I've ever really done any landscape pieces before, other than the background on my illustration pieces, but they're always obscured by a creature as the main focus. This was the other way round.
Not much art direction given with this other than the title, which is nice to have such freedom to explore. Ths may have been slightly influenced by a certain manga series... cough.... (I'm obsessed... help me...)
I'm really happy with the dragon. I just doodled it on and painted straight away without much thought which is a first for me. Also, rocks are my new love.

Is it fine if I ask how backgrounds work? I really want a few tips on backgrounds so I can work on them...

My biggest advice for everything is just to really think about lighting and shadows, as that really decides where you put your colours and shades. For backgrounds - just have fun with it! I saved step by step images of this one so will have a tutorial up at some point if that helps!

I like that there are so many colors and shades. Especially the sky. It fulls of purple, pink and navy shades. The Sun is so dark while the little part of grass is so bright.Β
Dragon looks really great. I like that you composed him in left corner. Looks like It's waiting for something or someone.Β
When I look at this piece I can feel so much magic in it. It's really impressive image.

I was worried it was too much of a colour explosion. Tried to really use yellows and oranges for the grass to keep everything as controlled as I could.

Oooh, that's a toughy as I'm not in reach of the PSD at the moment. TBH, with something like this i work on new layers on top and never really go back under, meaning I should really just keep merging all my layers, but I don't because I'm lazy, haha.
