This tutorial is very informative and detailed!I think I can learn a lot from this!Perhaps another tutorial on clothes or action poses would be very useful...

This is EXCELLENT. It's amazing and, dare I say, I've learned a bit and I haven't even read the whole thing.

Well, this tips help to make the characters look more round, not every one needs to do this, as some people are born with natural talent. As for myself, I no longer do this all the time, just when I got problems getting the drawing right, but in the beginning, I did this almost everytime.

I already do all that stuff. Also, I noticed Kaira is digitigrade, but you didn't mention anything about it.
Also, I usually have a bit of trouble with tails, as they usually look like they're coming out of a hip rather than the middle.

Sorry but, What do you mind with Digitigrade? That she only has 4 fingers, or that she has Bird like feet. Like I said Hands and feet would be done in a different Tip session as they are quite elaborate by themselves.
Mammal tails come from in the middle of the buttocks reptile and bird like tails take the place of the buttocks as they dont have those.

Digitigrade is the whole leg. Shorter thicker thigh and shorter shin, and longer foot, leaving her standing on her toes. Several of my own characters are digitigrade, including my main one.

Well, I didnt know the term in english. That kind of feet is quite comon among animal characters and Kaira species are humanoid Dragons (thats the easy explanation)

Very good tutorial. I'll practice it when i find some time. I used volumes but I've always seen tips for real human body and these cartoon style shapes help a lot .

This is like the most basic stuff, realistic proportion can use more elaborated structures but this is more than enough, IΒ΄m glad you like it!

Hmm, interesting tips. Being an amateur artist, this kind of stuff would be good to experiment with. Thanks for the tips!

Beau-Skunk [2007-03-30 22:11:51 +0000 UTC]
Pretty nice tutorial. To be honest, I never really use shapes (circles, squares, cubes & such) when I'm drawing. I usually just draw the outline straight out, and work from there, (I usually start with the face) wich can be kinda hard, and take some time sometimes. It also seems to give the characters I draw a more flat 2D look sometimes.
I hear using shapes is easier for some people. Mabey I oughtta try it sometime, or practice a li'l. They say it helps keep chars proportinate.

I also dont use shapes always, but when I want to get a special pose, I usually revert to the shapes, it really helps a lot to make everything look right, then with practice, one can skip the shapes and go straight to the figure
