Description While I was going through the teaching collection in the vertebrate paleontology collections room where I work, I came across this handsome little lady (yes, the label said that the skull came from a female). She is from the recent collection, so is not fossilized at all.

I think what drew me to photograph her, was that she is a primate, an evolutionary relative of humans. The similarities, and differences, between her and us are not all visible in this photo, but enough are there to provoke thought.

I've no clue what is in her nose, but it was solid so I didn't want to mess with it as it may be holding parts of her together.

Oh, what is she you ask?
She is a tarsier.

Thank you
The university doesn't sell things in the teaching collection, as most of them would be illegal to sell.

Well, the link works for me! D=
Here is a tarsier skull: [link] I think it's impossible to see the similarities, quite a close match, don't you think? At least to the naked (and untrained ) eye

Hehehe. It could be a bit creepy, now that I think on it a bit. I am so used to being around bones that they don't bother me.

I know what you mean! Not that I see bones that oftenly, but I've always enjoyed seeing skeletons and skulls of animals in museums, I have even been in a museum of antropology (but they had animal skeletons there too, like moles, hedgehogs, small kangaroos, foxes, cats, and then skulls of wolves, various big cats ans bears, as well as skulls of various primates (we're getting closer) and axtinct human species' and what caught my eye was a complete skeleton of a silverback gorilla male. WOW! what a robust skeleton that was! After seeing that, I am not surprised that gorilla could break human bones like twigs... XD It was a really exciting trip for me
