Description Every now and then I get into a Paper Mario mood. Something about the art style just makes me want to draw the characters from time to time. That happened to me a few days ago. Even though I had a lot of other stuff to do, I decided to relieve some stress by sitting down and drawing several random characters I like from the original game. I've been wanting to draw Tubba Blubba for a very long time, so I started off with him, and it kinda just grew from there.

I got experimental with the coloring, but I really like it. I think it has a "painterly feeling."

Cool stuff, these look great! I still haven't played the first Paper Mario game, though I really want to. I hope it comes on the Wii Virtual Console.

I'm really waiting for more games to come out on the VC. Right now, there's only a few I'd consider getting. There's not that many β€œbig classics” on there right now... still, maybe there are some hidden gems I've never heard of. Oh, at any rate, I hope they put the first PM on there sometime. You'd love it.

I notice that you've used a very different, more intense style of shading then you usually do. I think that's great- the opportunity to experiment should be taken whenever it's available, and I really like the way it brings out the light and shadow.

However, now that I can see the shading more clearly, I notice that there's a little trouble with consistant lighting. See how Tubba Bubba's head is lit on the left side (our left)? His shell is lit from the right side. This makes it seem like Tubba's lit from both sides- which he's not, or his front would be darker than his sides.

I used to always shade the same way: the center of an object was birghtest, the bottom was darkest, and the sides were darker than the rest. But then I realized: hey, it doesn't work that way! xD; I guess what I'm trying to say is that since you're pulling off really difficult techniques with your shading (like the way you represented Tubba's right knee [our right] even with all the complex forshortening and carefel linework that involves- I love the way that looks), it looks a little odd when the lighting is confusing. Just keep an eye out.

Thanks. You're right; it does look a bit odd. I almost always shade my pictures as if the light source was coming from the upper right... I don't know, it's just a habit or something. So it's the top of his head that's out of place. Guess I wasn't paying attention Thanks for pointing that out.

I hope to use this style of shading a lot more in the future.

I find myself always shading as if the light was coming from the upper left. o.o Weird. I really need to get out of that habit. xD

Er, not the same way as you- the same way as my previous attempts.
