Description
Happy New Year! Here we are, with a new chapter! WOOHOO
So uh… poor Pap. It sure tickles my brain (I couldn’t find a better way to describe it) to try imagining how Paps must feel in this comic, and then guess what expressions he’d make. It also hurts my soul.

Btw if you want to make a comic dub of this, please go ahead! I totally encourage it. Just give credit to me and unrestedjade.

For those wondering how the artist managed to change the mood so quickly, it was done so by use of colors and scratchy lines. See, before the mood changed, the lines were soft, but when the mood changed, they switched to thin, scratchy lines. And again, before the mood changed, the colors were much more inviting, but when it turned serious, the colors changed to dark colors, like black.

I've heard of it, and I've been meaning to check it out, especially to see how Undertale was inspired by / copied it. I'll play it one of these days

well, i personally don't like undertale because it has stolen assets and sprites from both cave story and mother (the game of lucan and ness from smash bros) also, the great hit song of "megalovania" was stolen from a old japanese game, and when everybody says undertale is the most creative and emotional game ever, i just feel my body become 80% salt

You make some interesting points. Do you know which Japanese game "Megalovania" was stolen from? I'm curious now.

I can't seem to find a lot of games from the nes era or older with that description, maybe it is Little Ninja Brothers from the NES, do you remember what kind of gameplay did it had? like if it was a 2D sidescrolling game or maybe a turn based game ?

found something!
“Megalovania” (commonly styled as MeGaLoVania) is a song composed by the musician and video game developer Toby “Radiation” Fox. The song, featured on Toby’s Earthbound hack and the webcomic series Homestuck, experiencied a rise of popularity after the release of the RPG Undertale in September 2015, inspiring remixes and mash-ups.

This panel is amazing. The style used to make the trees in the background plus the bones look exactly like in the game. it feels like a real fight happening inside the game.
Papyrus' face is also incredible. I feel so sorry for him!
The choice of colours also created the right dark atmosphere for this fight. Will Flowey kill his friend, even if he begs for mercy? We hang in suspense.

With every new page, you heighten the pain and intensity shot through the neurons of the brain. Gone are the beautiful bright blues Chapter one introduced and instead the piercing red and black darkness remains here in chapter two. The black is strong but not overpowering, surrounding the small panels and almost crushing them in place. This effect is intensified by the limited details -- some broken bones, then a scrap of fabric on snow, cracked vines. Your use of "white" space is very attractive and commands attention; rather than reminding the reader that there is nothing there, it is "filled" with pain, suffering and emotion.
The pixellated first panel is an excellent detail to start the chapter, touching back on the original art style of the game. It is like stepping into the game and having it unfold into the world/timeline you have created, special to your creative design. Very nice touch.
Finally, the last panel is crushing, excruciating on the heart of anyone who loves Papyrus, who knows how kind and gentle he is. We did not get to see the battle, but the position he's now trapped in, the pained, sad expression on his face -- readers can grasp a general replay within their own minds. Papyrus valiantly defending himself but ultimately lacking the aggression and goal to win, thus battling until his strength wore out and Flowey ensnared him. The twist of his body and the strain on his face...I wonder what he's thinking, wonder if he's still thinking about how much he cares about his friend and wants this all to be just a bad dream. He continues to struggle because he doesn't want anything to change between them; Papyrus is loyal to his friends because he has so few.
I haven't really commented before now even though I am really addicted to your series -- I never feel like I have something worthwhile to remark -- but this page was really powerful and sparked my editorial side. ^/////^

Awww, you're so sweet. I just fell back on my classes regarding comic pages and how to analyze their layout and the elements therein, and applied it to my response.
You're welcome, and I'm sorry I took so long to do so. I hope you enjoy the process of creating this story, even if the story is painful and sad.

First off, excellent spritework in that first panel. I take it you'll be starting each chapter off with the first panel done in sprites?
Second, OH GOSH the little closeups of the battlefield (there's a technical term for those kinds of closeups I think but it's escaping me right now and I'm too lazy to look it up in the Making Comics book XD;; ) do a fantastic job of showing just how rough the fight was.
And then that last panel is just a gut-punch. AGH. Easily the harshest take on this scene I've ever seen depicted. PAPYRUS DOES NOT DESERVE THIS ;A; The panel border is a nice touch too.
These pages continue to be excellent! Keep up the great work!

I always love your feedback. You really pay attention to what's going on, both in the comic and in the stylistic choices.
Yeah, I want to start each chapter with pixel art to remind you that this could actually be happening in the canon Undertale universe. We have no idea what Flowey did in all his other timelines, so the fact that this could actually have happened adds an extra touch of horror.
Yes, I'm glad the closeups do what they were intended to do! It feels good to know that an effect was interpreted correctly by the audience. I need to get my hands on that Making Comics book... I'm curious now!
Ahh, the last panel. I need to look up how others depicted this scene. I tried to portray it as horrifyingly as possible, because the last chapter ended in huge suspense, and huge suspense begs for a gut-punch, sometimes. I tried to imagine what Papyrus is going through in all of these scenes, and I understood it to be the most terrible experience of his life. So I drew what that would look like.
I'm excited for the next page of your comic! Take your time though; we both know how much time it takes to make these.

Ahaha, well, as I've said before, I TRY to pay attention to how other people do comics (especially really good comics!) because I'm trying to learn what works, myself. I always hear that one of the ways you get better at doing comics is by reading other comics, so...
Oh, absolutely! Flowey mentions repeatedly in the game that he did everything until he was bored, and was particularly interested in Papyrus, so that leaves a lot of possibilities as to what he could have done.
Making Comics by Scott McCloud is an EXCELLENT book and I HIGHLY recommend it. I've read it twice so far (the second time just before starting on the script for my Undertale fancomic) and will probably go back and reread it again.
I've seen a few other folks attempt a full comic of the fanfic (but never finish it--one got up to like, chapter four or five though I think) and most of them depicted this scene pretty mildly--usually with Papyrus a little roughed up, but not too bad.
OH RIGHT I need to get back to my comic, ahaha. Need to do a fic banner first though, then I'll get back to that. I'm looking forward to drawing the next set of pages.
