Well, it's that certain time again... It's time for another MLP episode discussion! And what better way than to do this with yet another episode featuring our beloved, chaotic, adorable, and hilarious duo, Discord and Fluttershy!
Personally, I think this episode has actually become one of my favorites, mainly because I thought the humor aspect of it was so good! I found myself laughing quite a bit while watching it!
As for the new take on the smooze, I'm a little mixed, but I'm mostly Ok with what they decided to do with it, but of course not everyone is going to look at this aspect the very same way.
And like always, John de Lancie delivers such a great performance here, and I just found Discord's antics entertaining all the way through!
But what are the thoughts that some of you guys had for this one? Did you end up liking it, hating it, or was it just a mixed bag for you?

I actually really enjoyed the episode; it was like a gift to the Fluttercord fandom. They had so many moments I'm not going to bother to list them all (although Discord's ears fluttering when he thought about Fluttershy was my favorite!). Sure, you can view their relationship as nothing more than platonic friendship... but it looks like on Discord's end at least, there's something there
First of all, we find out that they have 'regular Tuesday tea.' They regularly get together and have tea and gab on Tuesdays! How awesome is that?! They genuinely like each other, are both happy to see each other, and are working through his betrayal in the last season (although maybe Discord is mostly over it, because he doesn't seem to be the type to stay guilty about things - seeing how he immediately tried to hug Treehugger after nearly sending her into another dimension!).
Second of all- Discord being jealous! Hooboy. It was cringe-inducing to watch him trip over and embarrass himself to impress Fluttershy and get her undivided attention once more. He was okay with her being friends with the other five, but I suspect he felt like he was a special friend in her heart, and seeing Treehugger occupy what he thought was his rightful place, sitting across from her at a table and making her laugh, was just too much. For someone who has never had another friend before, who has never had to put himself in another person's shoes (or hooves), seeing this usurper just swoop in and take his first and only friend's attention was enough to make him snap, quite literally. (Yes, I don't think he is real friends with the other five yet - see how quick they were to gang up against him when he opened the portal to the Mexican puppet world!)
A lot of people think Fluttershy was too harsh with Discord at the end. I respectfully disagree. I was surprised by how forceful she was with him, yes. But I liked it, and I was glad. Glad, because she felt comfortable enough with Discord to speak her mind honestly. Glad, because she didn't feel like she had to pussyfoot around him, like she does with others. Glad, because the last thing Discord needs while he's still being reformed is for someone to tell him no, it's not that big a deal to threaten to send people into a different dimension because you don't like them (especially after he nearly handed Equestria over to Tirek!). Discord has to learn that he's in the wrong, that you can have more than one friend, and it's not okay to act like a possessive jerk and monopolize your friends' attention. Sometimes a part of kindness is doing something that will hurt your friends in the short term but help them in the long term (see Fluttershy's lesson with the breezies!). I think Discord is definitely someone who needs clear, frank messages, and Fluttershy gave that to him. And he cherishes Fluttershy's friendship enough to change for her, and he is changing, little by little! It's heartwarming. Also, they were arguing like a married couple XD
I am not surprised that Discord is taking so long to be 'fully reformed,' or that he is so possessive and has trouble with interpersonal relationships - for goodness' sake, he was a free spirit living only for himself, wreaking havoc before being encased in stone for 1000 years. He is new to this whole friendship thing. When you think about it, he really is changing very quickly. And all because he wants to please his friend, Fluttershy.
On another note, I shudder to imagine how Discord would handle Fluttershy having a male friend, or even *gasp* a coltfriend, if this is how he reacted to her having a new, female friend
In closing, I can't wait for the next episode with Discord, and I look forward to seeing how his relationship with Fluttershy (his own words!) and the other ponies progresses. (Last but not least, I wonder why he didn't just use Smooze against Celestia and Luna a thousand years ago, lol!)

Also, I wrote a fanfic, (I didn't post it anywhere though, btw) where Fluttershy had a coltfriend for a while, and he was so mad, I was laughing while I wrote it.

Even if they were not friends in the show, I still would not have seen any other pony or EG that would fit so well with Discord the way sweet and innocent Fluttershy would Β Β Β Β

I liked it a LOT, not a fan of Treehugger, but i can see why she could be the best fit for the role
Discord was s in character as was Fluttershy (oblivious) and even tough i don't ship them they were adorable in their conversation in the end!

They pretty much confirmed that Discord have a one sided crush on her with that epsiode. They also made a message for adults about overprotective boyfriends/girlfriends ovverreacting along to the main message about jealous friends that was for kids.
Overall i think the ship is on the right path. Fluttershy doesn't seem to care in a romantic way but that's because he is still a jerk and he need to prove her that he can be charming and heroic too.

I can kinda relate to Discord in this one. I didn't have many friends when I was little so when I did get one, I was always super jealous when they got a new one.
I also love how cool everyone is with Discord in this one.

Shy is f-ed up for not realizing that this feeling of jealousy in friendship is new to Discord and he doesn't know how to curb it.
Shy is f-ed up too for asking Treehugger(a stranger) to the Gala instead of Discord.
He's changed his life for the approval of Fluttershy.
Shy has got a lot of growing up to do towards a serious relationship with Discord,a being She part time lives with.
Discord proclaimed his crush on Shy to Tirek and Shy lowers her nose down to Discord because of one day?

She didn't invite him to the gala because she already assumed he had a ticket and was going. His behaviour was appalling. I like Fluttercord, but come ON.
Why is the onus always on the woman to get everything right? If Discord is going to get Shy to love him, he's got to earn it.Β

I debated with enough women to know that when they devolve to "What If" theories,they have nothing left to debate with and are guilty.

There are five clips on youtube where a 'thing' between Discord and Celestia can be seen growing into a serious relationship.
Unlike Shy n Discord.Shy just wants friends and nothing more.Discord has a great friendship with Twilight and Shy should be worried.

This so much. Discord is the one threataning to erase ponies from this dimension or let the mail pony get eaten. He is the one who had to earn her affection. She was suprised and honored that he thought of her as the oldest and bestes friend. So there is place there for admiration but is clear that she doesn't love him in romantic way, yet.

I agree with the others when they say that Fluttershy was too harsh on Discord, specially towards the ending of the episode. But saying this got me thinking; Fluttershy has never addressed another pony like that before. The only reason I can come up with as to why she would snap at Discord in such a way is because she knows he's still growing. She wants to make sure Discord turns into a decent pony who knows the values of friendship, because how can anyone know love without knowing friendship first? He's who she cares about the most, that why she scolded him so harshly. Because if (when) they end up together in the future, she wouldn't want something as stupid as a jealous tantrum to separate them. At least, that's my theory.
Also on another note, i quite enjoyed the delivering of the ticket scene myself. That poor mailpony... hehe! X3

Perhaps that's the only way to make Discord see the bad that he has done.Β If she were to speak calmly and sweetly like usual, he may not have listened.Β After all, he had done quite a bit of damage and threatened to send her friend to another dimension!Β That's pretty bad.
I'm sort of trying to convince myself of this and I do agree with you quite a bit as well.
Neither Discord nor Fluttershy were very nice to each other in this episode, and I'm a little disappointed about that.Β Their friendship is just so complicated!

And yes, the complicity of their friendship is a rocky one. But some would argue that the more complicated ones are the better kinds of relationships. Most likely because they take longer and they feel all the more sweeter when they final do become canon.

I really liked this episode. I thought Discord's jealousy was well handled. I would have liked to have seen more of it but we do have a twenty minute time limit. I hope they are going to address the season four finale though...Like everyone is now okay with Discord. Most of the mane six didn't trust him before and now they are all acting like everything is totally cool. I thought they used Discord's magic much better in this episode. We finally get to see more of what he can do! AND we saw where he lives!!
On a side note I thought Celestia's attitude was a bit off....anyone else?

I think Fluttershy was a little too harsh on him in this episode. Like he said, he's still not used to friendship and he's just worried his only "friend" will leave him from her new friend. I know what he did was really wrong, but she has to atleast understand that Discord is still confused with this new life and he IS "the god of chaos". There's nothing he can do to change the things he still likes to do.Β
I don't know, she was just rude how she scolded like he was trying to take over Equestria and just smacked the flower away from him when he was trying to apologize. I know he was suppose to apologize to Treehugger, but she should just accept how he was trying to apologize to her and THEN convince him to apologize Treehugger.Β
What Fluttershy took the situation at the end of the episode was just a little off her character.Β

I thought it was a really great episode! one of my fav's! I loved Discord through all of it and the FlutterCord was everywhere! I loved how jealous Discord was that Fluttershy wasn't taking him. There were a few things that I didn't like though. One was the hippie, I think she was really annoying and I think they should have made her someone else besides a hippie. Two is how Fluttershy was acting in the episode, she wasn't being very nice to Discord and she was acting kinda weird, not her best episode I think.

What I liked about this episode is even though Discord is the good guy now that he still has lots of growing to do. Β Like when he wanted to take Treesy to another dimension gives a great example. Β The writers also expressed that he has feelings and emotions just like everypony else. This includes fears, jealously, and loneliness.Β
