Description My first "properly calculated" spaceship. Submitted after countless hours of fighting with numbers and my concept of space battles.
If picture appears to be blurry click for full view. Scale: 1 pixel is 0.25 m.

Hare class general purpose frigate. Serving under Planets of Sol Federation.

Crew: 35

Total weight: 5508 tons (including 3933 tons of methane used as propellant)
length: 140 m
front shield diameter: 31 m

Main propulsion: fusion engine,
Delta V budget: 500 km/s

Main armament:
huge long range laser embedded into front shield (shooting three 0.5 s pulses every half minute with peak power of 320 MW), depending on target it can engage at ranges up to 6500 km (or more if target is really squishy)

Secondary armament (mounted on the edge of front shield)
2x 4 MW lasers in turrets
4x 25mm railguns (around 10000 rounds each)

Additional armament:
8x 5mm railguns (around 10000 rounds each)
almost 100 tons of missiles, torpedoes, drones, reconnaissance satellites and Combat Reconnaissance Missiles (hybrid of unmanned scout vehicle and armed missile) - chosen accordingly to mission profile, located behind weapons radiators

Heat dissipation:
weapons radiators mounted behind front shield forming parts of short cylinder with nominal temperature of 1000 K
main radiators (mainly reactor cooling) mounted on stern in shape of flat wings with nominal temperature of 800 K

Equipped with two short range shuttles 42 tons each, when not in use they are stored inside hangar bays.

Because you cannot hide in space enemy general location is known long before shooting starts. Most ship to ship combat consist of long nervous waiting till enemy is in range and rapid exchange of laser volleys until one side is destroyed. Main fighting efforts concentrate in gathering enough data to actually hit enemy ship. In consequence ship armor is concentrated in front shield.

I'm glad you like it and thanks for fav!

There will be more, next will probably be civilian transport ship.

No worries.

That sounds interesting. I tried designing one once but it's not that great though. sta.sh/0qyti605mkx

And you made me read about NSWR It's a beast!

Nice design of that cargo ship And I think that simply be crunching some numbers (total mass, mass ratio etc) it is more valuable than most "space ships" on DA...

I'm interested in some more ideas from you

No worries!

Yeah, the NSWR is crazy. Thanks for your thoughts on the cargo ship. I want to redesign it.

I need to get some more ideas then
I get many of my ideas from here: www.projectrho.com/public_html…

I know that website
Great source of info.

I started thinking harder about my cargo ship, but it will be more of orbital tug. Not capable of even interplanetary travel due to limited life support.

Oh, you finally posted it!

And it's not penis shaped!

Too bad pixel art is somewhat size limiting, so fine details like docking ports aren't obvious. But it's got nice grainy look to it. I can imagine it would look real nice in some looping flash animation

Flying-Snake In reply to Do-Mo [2016-08-18 20:39:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, finally is a good word...

(Not penis shape but maybe some enemy has similar ship but with rounded front shield and circular radiators - Fallus class frigate  )

Lack of fine details is somewhat time saving - I don't need to fine model every weapon hard point and each thruster. But it leave it for viewers imagination, or maybe some other pictures.

I'm tempted to make another picture with this ship during combat, with radiators glowing from heat. Maybe some gif animation... We'll see

On the side note: those are heat radiators, power comes from nuclear reactor.

Oh! So that's just a heat dispersal system?

Flying-Snake In reply to Rockyrailroad578 [2016-08-18 18:44:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes, in total during combat it has to dissipate almost 50 MW of heat and glows dull red ("wings" cooling power generators) or orange (radiators just after front shield dissipating heat from weapon systems).

It is probably most often forgotten parts of spaceships in science fiction...
