Description A mid range cargo transport fitted for handling oversized cargo, and delivering goods to unimproved planet side locations.The 10 meter spherical body is built specifically for handling object larger than standard shipping containers. It has two direct access cargo hatches, and two cargo airlocks deigned to adapt to any large scale cargo hates on stations or vessels. It carries a small crew, and a handful of passengers, with a large array of cargo handling gear built into the ship.

Armed for self defense, and having a thick layer of armor and reinforced hull the ship can survive both natural, and man made hazards relatively well. Te rugged hull of the ship can withstand impacts, harsh environments and radiation hazards that would seriously hamper ships with lighter hulls, and no significant protection from radiation, and harsh treatment. As part of it's standard equipment, It also has enough firepower and defensive gear aboard to repel the casual attack, and force even pirate corsairs to reconsider an attack.

Powered by high efficient fast cycle fusion core, and fuel efficient engines, the ship is designed to make maximum use of fuel, and internal space while maintaining enough power to maneuver at full thrust, and fire its entire compliment of upgraded pulse lasers during an attack. To save space the shi is designed to use Jum Dimming to reduce basic systems power, allowing it to divert this energy to jump drives. This may place it at a disadvantage when attempting to jump while under attack, forcing it to cease firing, and maneuvering to jump, however the fact it is so well armored and armed makes that situation far less likely.

The considerable cost of drives, and power plants makes the ship expensive to purchase, but the savings in internal space allows heavier cargoes to be carried offsetting the cost, with increased profitability. Added to the larger cargo bay, higher performance, and slightly extended jump range, the ships weapons, armor, and direct to surface ability combine to make it a fairly effective commercial vessel, in the more remote areas it is designed to operate in.

due to it's size and relatively rugged build, the Frontier Transport is sometimes modified as a troop transport, Armed Merchantman, Or used as a modified tender for military operations. These modifications are difficult to spot with most sensor sweeps, making approaching a frontier transport risky if more heavily armed merchantmen are operating in the area

Technical Notes:
The ship is a tail setter, the reinforced engine naccels allow serve as landing gear for the ship. As a side effect the ship kicks up large amounts of dust and debris when landing on unimproved surfaces and can cause spot fires due to the heat generated by it's main drives in close proximity to a surface.

cargo area decreased to 175 tons, to allow for missile bay and additional munitions storage

Mobile Mining Processor:
Cargo space replaced by 200 ton mineral processor, offloads to cargo modules for later pick up.

troop transport:
cargo area converted into barracks and armories for 100 Marines.
Cryo berth Versions can carry 50 man ready force + Β 200 marines in cryo-berth, and medical bay for "defrosting" prior to deployment.

Landing Craft Tank variant:
carries 10 Grav tanks,crew, and supplies

Tender Variant:
carries 150 tons fuel: can be refilled by fuel skimming
10 Additional Staterooms for crew rotation.
Recreational lounge for supported vessel crews
Medcal bay
40 Displacement tons, spares, and supplies
Underway Replenishment system

Mercenary transport: same as Troop transport for 50 men, +2 30ton armed assault boats


Creators Notes: based largely influenced the Battletech Union Dropship, and Traveller RPG Mercenary cruiser.

I had forgotten about that one It's been a while since I watched 2001. I was thinking of two other ships when I started on it.

It seems to have been copied by the Broadsword Mercenary cruiser
