Description
Today is officially the last day of the spring equinox, with the summer solstice starting tomorrow on June 21st. In honor and light of this I present to you Spring Incarnate. Fresh, cool colors that are just starting to find their vibrancy and saturation, hinting at the impending warmth of Summer as well as the last few remnants of Winter's darkness. This piece took me approximately three weeks and I experimented with different techniques, over long sessions, throughout the process. The first session was 18 hours straight, which sort of set the pace. The model is none other than the deliciously deviant Paula Kaiser, who I keep wondering when I'll bump into at some event or other. This is likely not the last you'll see of her, or in fact this image. I still have a more complex composition in mind, but I feel it can hold its own as is so I decided to share it.

Edit: I wanted to try a slightly different palette just for fun. The result is Twilight , in my scraps.

Thanks! Given the last comment on this was three years ago, I think it might be time to upload some new material... But thanks just the same!

Awesome detail though it seems kind of lumpy to me, lol, but yes! the lashes! I won't even paint them if I'm doing a digital painting for fun.

Thanks! You know, I kept thinking the very same thing while I was creating it... And the funny part is the original model doesn't really look like her at all. Something happened in the artistic process there.

great work man. looking good. really like the way you portrayed the hair, eyebrowse and eyelashes. also the colors and contrast work very well with the composition.
a little point of constructive crit: the lines in the face might be a bit too loose at points, It makes the face kind of unsmooth. especially at the neck and chin. I would make the lines with the biggest contrast a bit 'stricter' (less paintery) If you know what I mean. but thats just me.. see what you do with it.. just trying to help

Thank you! Means a lot coming from you.
As far as the lines go, I know what you mean. Someone else said something similar in one of the variations. Part of the problem is that I started with a more painted feel in mind and then went realistic in other areas. I always like mixing up styles in a piece so I don't mind the contrast. But it does confuse the eye a bit. The final image I have in mind was intended to be more abstract, which I think will assist her current state. Right now it's an overall realistic image which makes the roughness of the lines stand out more.
Still, you might be right. If I have the time I'll see if I can smooth up the hardest of the shadows and see where it goes. And really, no need to feel awkward about offering crit. You of all people have earned the right, after all the critique I give your work.

no prob
maybe you could throw in a half transparent layer on top of the image this time with some smooth paths.. just an idea. remains the paint look and adds the more realistic look
yeah I really love getting crits, but I've discovered that a lot of people on DA can't handle them very well. Or I just don't write them down in a good way.. but anyway I'm always a little carefull..

Good idea! That just might work... I'll try it once the current piece I'm working on is done. And yeah, it's sometimes a touchy situation... Personally I always love getting feedback. Even if I happen not to not agree with it, I always appreciate knowing what others think of my work, good or bad.

It's really interesting to compare this to the other one you uploaded. The colors here are warmer and more spring-like than the other, which speaks to me more of fall, or nighttime in any season.
