Description
So, I said it, and here it is:Rotodactylus matthesi, a ?dinosauromorph ichnotaxon from the early triassic "Buntsandtsein" of Germany, since it been a while however, that I've done any research on this little guy, it's possibly from other places of Europe as well. Though don't quote me on that.
Well, what's there really to say, it's an ichnotaxon, it's only known by it's track. Based on these however we know that it could switch from a quadrupedal to a bipedal gait, and did this possibly quite regulary. If I remembr correctly we litteratly have tracks of these creatures running, simply strolling bipedaly and walking along quadrupedal. So it was fairly mobile, that's for sure.
The tracks are usually assigned to dinosauromorpha, similar to lagerpetidae like Lagerpeton and such, if, it would have been around 30cm small, which is something I wasn't able to catch in the drawing, since I didn't realize how small it really was untill I was almost done. But like with pretty much all other ichnotaxa, they have been interpreted differently as well. By that I mean these tracks could be basically anything within Archosauria, with tendency towards avemetatarsalia/ornithodira, which is great.
I did go for the dinosauromorph approach, it's the one I'm personally most familiar with and hear about most of the time, but, it's just uncertain.
Like I already said the scale of the creature to the enivornment is off, the metatarsals are just way too short, but I'm guessing this happened while I was trying to match the drawing to what we know of it's quadrupedal gait. It basically managed to put it's hindfeet in front and closer to it's body than the arms/frontfeet. So, that's quite interesting, it defenitly had long hindlimbs, and shorter fronlimbs.
Otherwise it's a speculative attempt so view it with caution!
Also, for some reason there hasn't been a reconstruction of this guy here on DeviantArt as of yet, now that's over as well!
