Are those porcupine needles on the spine? Also, very well done! The detail is amazing!

Reminds me...I need to re-do the 1:1 Velociraptor mongoliensis head I started ages ago...hope you don't mind if I have a few questions?
Any recommendations for building the skull base? I have a replica I can work off, but as far as making the armature accurate, I'm not sure how to make it less flimsy (I have no soldering tools, so that's out of the question =/ ).
Also, would you recommend texturing one layer of sculpey so that the layer going over it is less likely to flake off? I think it would work, but I'd like to check to make sure it does...
Lastly, what kind of eyes do you use? Regular glass ones? Or are they specially ordered?
I'd really appreciate it if you could help this amateur out!

Sculpey is quite easy to work with after you get used to it... kind of spreads like butter! I also spend hours to achieve the level of detail shown - that or I'm just slow!?!

I use both... I have created "stamps" that can be pressed int the surface to simulate the scales... where the rosettes overlap you have to go back and hand sculpt the scales back in.

I use foil for the core, add a layer of sculpey to rough out the skull, then bake. I then use Scupley to add the muscles and skin texture.
The quills are porcupine.

Ah! That explains it. I'm rather scared of trying the layering technique with the Sculpey but now that I know someone else uses it gives me the courage to try.
Btw, how did you create that fantastic detail on the skin on Masiakasaurus?

Thanks! This is the first model where I have had the luxury of working with a cast of the actual specimen... makes all the difference in the world.
