Yup. It's been a while. But this was one of those itches that was overdue for some scratchin'. I'm talking about the unmade film "Godzilla vs. Ghost Godzilla". An interesting concept that was rumored to be the initial 'final' movie of the Heisei series before "...vs. Destoroyah". As redundant the idea of Godzilla going up against another doppleganger would have been, I find aspects of this one interesting. First, it would be Godzilla literally fighting another Godzilla...meaning they would be evenly matched in abilities, perhaps? On top of that, G would also be facing his son, since Little Godzilla would get possesed by the spirit of the '54 beast and grow into a zombie version of his dad. But knowing how the Heisei series usually pans out, I gave Ghost G a weird spectral atomic pulse, that would just devastate everything nearby. Pretty much like Godzilla's atomic burst, but....more ghostly?
The design of Ghost Godzilla (vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/g… ) hints at 2 things to come in the series: The split skin look is similar to Burning Godzilla's, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was a direct carry over from this concept. The dead white eyes, and spirit possession also calls back to the Godzilla of GMK, although I'm not sure if it is accurately connected. I was careful not to directly mimic either established versions, and keep the '54 Godzilla design as intact as I felt necessary.
Angilas is another kaiju that would constantly have "almost was..." appearances in these films. He wouldn't show up until Final Wars, so I used the concept art (vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/g… ) combined with the Final wars suit to create this version. I still find the oddity of his split carapace to be something that continues to pop up. I don't quite understand it's purpose. Does his shell open up like a beetle? Or is there some offensive capability about it that we haven't seen?
Since this film would have been a follow-up to "Space Godzilla", I left the design of G the same. Who knows? For this final outing, they may have redesigned him slightly more...but we'll never knowwwwwwooooohhhhhhh! < (that's a spooky ghost voice).
