Description Inbetween creating "Unmade Movie" scenes, I will keep things fresh with doing images of my most favorite kaiju. Starting with this guy.

Even though Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla is a weak movie, I like several elements that breaksΒ  tradition of the Heisei movies. You don't have a monster that goes through an upgraded form to face Godzilla in the last battle. Godzilla himself, is now the lesser of 2 evils, putting him in the semi-hero role of old.

In fact, I find it has more in common with the Showa era movies than the more modern take on the series. These elements include the throw-back of having an island adventure setting, a goofy little Godzilla, and at last, a space monster. I like the idea of the Godzilla/Heroic robot team-up to defeat said Space Kaiju, and Space Godzilla's final explosion is magnificent.

As for the monster himself, Space Godzilla is both menacing and silly...the same way I see classic Gigan. Loaded with offensive attributes, SG is a tough nut for Godzilla to crack, and there is even a few monster on monster physical attacks thrown in the mix. To add to my appreciation of this beastie, he carries physical traits of my other favorite Heisei monster, Biollante, as it is implied that they are possibly related.

Sure the movie has shoddy SPFX, and a lame "love story". But for some reason, its these different tones that makes me appreciate this entry.

Good job man. Very detailed and has a fearsome reputation to it.

Godzilla in Heisei Series didn't really come off as a bad guy to me, but just the roots of him being a force of nature. Godzilla vs Space Godzilla is actually my favorite movie from that series. Great art Space Godzilla is my favorite Godzilla villain.

Thank you! It's a weird entry for me personally. I actually like the departure it takes in tone and locales from the other movies of the era. I've said it before, that it sort of gives me a Showa vibe from the island exploits, the crazy designed space monster and Little Godzilla. The title monster doesn't get much props from fans often because of the un-eveness of the film, but it literally took the efforts of 2 opponents to take him down. He's a beast with a vast arsenal of weapons. That end battle feels like it goes on from dusk till dawn, and his finish is glorious when he just erupts into a huge ball of flame.Β

I think they went for a more softer more heroic tone for this Godzilla movie because of what was going to happen next in Godzilla vs Destroyah

I would have loved to see Space godzilla return, well in a new movie. But as seen in modern movies, we done fuck up everything. So it is a sad and good thing that these movies don't return, and stay the master's of they're crafts as they once did when they were still being made. Awesome childhood well spent with the king of monsters. <3

Honestly I think Space Godzilla was one of the better entries of the Heisei series. The film had a vey simple plot with no twists that suddenly make Godzilla the enemy like G vs. KG and G vs. M Battle for Earth did. When I watch a Godzilla movie, I WANT to root for Godzilla, not the other monster. Space Godzilla was a badass villain. Not since Hedorah have we seen a kaiju that acted on his own instead of being controlled by something higher like aliens. I also loved the human characters in the film like Yuki. The fight scenes were also a real pleaser with actual physical contact (like you said). I also think the Godzilla suit was one of the best because he had a near organic look to him. OverallΒ I really love G vs. SG and I prefer it overΒ most of the Heisei films besidesΒ  Godzilla 85. Β

I agree wth the aspect of rooting for godzilla. Gareth edwards obviously shared this sentiment in the new movie, and I found it really annoying in the Millenium serius how nearly every movie was about killing godzilla. It only really worked in GMK because that was clearly a "different", evil godzilla with soulless eyes.

I agree. I hate to see Godzilla lose inΒ later films. That's one of the major reasons I disliked the Kiryu movies.Β  Tokyo S.O.S was a major missed opportunity in my books. The only time I'm fine with him losing was in Mothra vs. Godzilla 1964 because he wasn't a hero yet. Like you said, GMK was the only later villain Godzilla film that actually worked because it was a WHOLE different Godzilla like a What If/ Elseworlds type film. I'm glad Legendary and Gareth made Godzilla a hero. We love Godzilla!!

Man this looks good. I love the effects of his shoulder crystals. Looks almost just like the movie. Has about the same shape and color luminescence. Did you find that on a tutorial, or did you figure out how to wing that yourself? o_0. Background also helps too. Got to love some of those Photoshop filters lol I think the radial is one of my favs to do when I am drawing up single character illustrations.

Good colors and shading as always man. I agree with everything you said about the movie though. The shoddy SPFX, the none existent story line, the island adventure, and the teaming up at the end. However...I still don't like the movie at all though lol! I just can't past that freaking aweful musical score that is in that movie. God it's bad.

OOooh yeah that score sucks big time. LOL. You could tell Ifukube saw this as a stinker and avoided it at all costs. LOL.

Believe it or not, I actually found some actual images of crystals that came pretty close to what I had drawn, and used them for filling them out, along with some color adjustments.Β  I'm pretty satisfied with the end result. The colors in the end was total experimentation, and yes, like you, I love the radial effect, especially when applied to space backgrounds. LOL

Look at it this way, Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla is a hell of alot better than Battle For The Earth! THOSE DAMN FAIRIES CAN FLY! WHY DIDN'T THEY ESCAPE THEMSELVES?! XD

I like Spacegodzilla, I think its weird that some people give him a hard time yet adore Mechagodzilla...I mean, how is a mechanical version of Godzilla any less ridiculous than an alien Godzilla? A robot Godzilla has to be designed and built by someone crazy enough to think a mechanical doppelganger of the Big G is a practical idea XD, at least Spacegoji is a mutation, & one with personality & motive (Goji DNA being spread through space is bound to cause trouble one way or the other lol). Granted, in future appearances it maybe easier to have him be a super weapon genetically engineered by alien invaders, but the I appreciate how Toho tried something creative & different with the monster's origin, & the idea of Mothra being to blame for the birth of a space monster that proceeded to attack the world she was supposedly guardian of makes me smile >8D

Great job on SpaceGoji, and I also like how they had Monster Island of sorts & Little G in the movie, who is WAY cuter than Minya (and badass since he grows up into Junior!). I also liked Moguera and how Godzilla was an anti-hero fighting in defense of his offspring, making SpaceGoji the true villain of the movie.

The Heisei Mechagodzilla is a failed design in my own opinion. I dislike the fact that it comes off way more advanced than Mecha King Ghidorah, despite it being reversed engineered from it's futuristic tech.Β  The smooth, rounded aesthetic of the design also lowers any visual threat that the original had. The 70's Mechagodzilla may have looked outdated, but it also had sharp angles, a menacing sneer and that ridiculous zig-zag beam which I love. It looked lethal, like you could cut your hand trying to handle that beast. The 90's looked like a smiling egg. both that and the Heisei Rodan designs are underwhelming to me.

Are you referring to that whacked-out 70's idea where the story implies Godzilla is a pregnant female creature from another planet that washes ashore dying from diabetes?

Are you talking about the one with Gamora?

No, this is actually the original concept of this version of Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. This monster would have freeze breath, crystals, wings, and twin tails. Oh, and it's basically a white, albino Godzilla. It was discusssed n a issue of G-Fan recently.
