The idea for Yo-kai Watch is that the Yo-kai make humans cause everyday's problems. If you find yourself eating way too much, or dressed in a way that people will find bizzare, or you squandered your money on useless things, it's a Yo-kai's doing. They're invisible to the naked eye, but with the titular watch you can actually see them. Unlike other "mon" franchises, the Yo-kai want to be your friends rather than being your "slaves" or "pets", if you want to call them that.

Wait, how are Starfy and Kirby anything alike? I've played both, and I see no similarities. Yeah, I guess Starfy has some transformation abilities, but that's only one detail that isn't even like the transformation thing that Kirby does. I can't believe people were saying that.

This would be the case with series like Bakugan and Monsuno getting hate for being a rip-off of the now underrated Yu-Gi-Oh! and the overvalued Pokemon anime just because they summon monsters out of their stuff.

Some people accused me of ripping off Undertale, just because there was an underground world of magic and strange creatures, and that young girl fell down the hole...but that's it, everything other is completely differend. I didn't even knew about undertale when i started this! Ugh...

With that kind of logic, you could further argue that Alice in Wonderland was ripped off by undertale because it ALSO features a world of strange things that the protagonist enters by falling down hole.

Have you seen some of the digimon before? They look like rip offs of Pokemon. Digimon came after Pokemon... Don't get angry about my comment, but I dislike digimon because of how similar that it is a bit of a small rip off with the series name. People say that Pokemon is the rip off, but Pokemon came BEFORE Digimon

Mons is a genre, and the "mon" in both titles stands for monsters- Pokemon is short for pocket monsters, and digimon is digital monsters.
So disliking digimon just for its title is pretty silly of you, as the common element just stands for monsters, which has been an extensive concept in stories since we first began telling them. ^^l
Further, although there might be pokemon that resemble digimon now, none of the original 151 who existed at the time digimon was first made bare any significant resemblance to any digimon or vice versa
(though that didn't stop tv executives from trying to treat patamon like Pikachu or from trying to market the show as just like Pokémon, even though, having experience with both, the only common points are monsters and child protagonists- and even those are handled quite differently.)
