Description
(before you ask, I really am autistic.)For those that are not autistic but still don't support AS: fav.me/d8x0mtz
Mintaka-TK explains it better, but I'm going to take a shot anyway:
Autism Speaks is just a horrible organization, period. They're basically the equivalent of PETA and Nazis, only replace animals and Jews with autistic people. They want to find a cure for autism, and that's IMPOSSIBLE. If autistic people have their autism gone, they're not who they really are anymore. Nobody who is actually autistic is on their senior staff. Just.... BLEH!
TL;DR: AS is a horrible organization.

Autism Speaks, isn't that the one that wouldn't let anyone who was actually autistic on their board?
Finding out any external causes of autism, such as exposure to pesticides that is currently being investigated, is worthy work, but I hear they go about bringing attention to that work in all the wrong ways. Also, voluntary experimental procedures such as transcranial magnetic stimulation that one man said tapped him into emotional awareness should be *available*, but not required or pushed.

The reason why autistic people suffer is not because of the disability itself, BUT THE WAY SOCIETY TREATS THEM. Seriously, there were many autistic people who were successful! The creator of Pokemon was autistic. AUTISM IS NOT A DISEASE FOR CORN'S SAKE! IT CANNOT BE CURED! Autism Speaks is so disgusting!

Yeah, i just watched a paranormal video where they were talking about these horrible people back in the 30's who threw a bunch of kids in a mental hospital because, they claimed they were "Mentally ill" or "Unfit" but, it turns out the kids just had autism. They gave those poor kids ice baths and gave them electric shock therapy which fried their brains and even killed a few of them. And the kids who lived escaped through the mental asylums basement.
And on YouTube, this person was talking about how people have a poor understanding of mental illnesses or social disabilities.

They disgust me
they're probably the reason why so many people bully and harass people with autism, because this "charity" treats them as sick and twisted people who aren't really people. I never needed them growing up and I've turned out great!

As an autistic, I feel like I am disabled, and I really wish I could be cured. I know I can't, because my brain just does not works normally and this cannot be changed, but seriously, I think autistic people should stop thinking they are pretty little snowflakes. Your brain is malfunctioning, that's it.
Sure you would not be yourself anymore if you were "cured"... just like a retarded person would not be themselves anymore, yet I think it would be good if there were a cure for mental retardation.

I'll be honest, some people on the spectrum benefit from their condition in some ways and while it can be quite disabling, they still wouldn't want to change a thing about themselves because they feel it's part of who they are and would be scared to lose themselves.
Then there are also others who don't benefit much if at all from it and do really wish they could be cured. I completely understand why you would want to cure it.
However, it's not proven that it is the brain malfunctioning. More evidence, at current, suggests a theory that autism is actually a slightly different way of receiving sensory information and understanding the world, which happens to look odd in a society which doesn't like difference. Basically a form of neurodiversity.
But I agree that we aren't pretty snowflakes. No-one is a snowflake. We're all the same singing dancing trash of the world. Nothing special about any of us.

I do not feel "different", I feel dumb. I am retarded. This is a fact I cannot deny. I cannot handle simple daily logic, I cannot handle social relationships (not because I do not want to, just because I have no idea how to act with humans), I would like to act like a normal human but I cannot, because my brain cannot function like it should be. Everyone think I am totally dumb because I am proving it everyday by acting weird and stupid, by being unable to handle very simple daily situations. Yet I agree that I am not retarded like another kind of mental retard would be, I am still one of the best student of my college class, I do great with sciences and I am mature and wise. Autism seems to work like this : some parts of your brains are malfunctioning while some other parts works better than "normal" humans. Like the autistic people that have an incredible memory or artistic talent. Yet, we cannot deny we are quite shitty when it comes to some useful daily skills.
I really wish I was normal. Everyone want to be different and I just cannot understand. Being normal seems so great.
I know we cannot cure autism. But if there were a way to do so, I would totally go for it. I am not scared of losing myself, as I fucking hate myself anyway.
Every kid nowadays want to be autistic, self-diagnose themselves as autistic when they clearly are not, and wish they had autistic kids....They just have no idea that being different is a plague (when you are truly different, and not self-claiming it).

I see. I sometimes feel that I'm stupid for not being able to do things others can do instinctively or easily, but I have also accepted that I'd probably be an entirely different person if I wasn't on the autistic spectrum (diagnosed aged 4 btw). Still, it'd be nice to be able to fit in sometimes, or to actually be able to do things without feeling like people are judging me or being completely useless at basic tasks...
And it really annoys me how bright sunlight appears to me, and how I can't focus on the voice of the person I'm having a conversation with past the background noise in busy rooms. Sensory issues are bloody horrible. ;-;
I do see why a cure would be nice, but I do have fears that some certain neurotypical autism organisations might try to use the cure on everyone with it, not just those who ask for it.
If the more negative parts could be cured without affecting the rest, I might be interested, although I'd still give it some more thought first.
Yeah, I don't like it when people try to self diagnose it though. It's one thing to accept yourself for who you are when you do have it, but for someone to actually want it when they don't have it is just plain stupid. It's a disability in this society, so why anyone would want to be disabled is just... I don't even have the words to describe how ridiculous that is.

We don't have a disease. We think differently, that's not a bad thing. Autism DOESN'T speak for this, at least not in the way they think.

They perpetuated that whole thing with vaccinations and then took down any mention of vaccinations being a possibility to autism once the measles outbreak at disney world happened. Not only does this make the disease that could kill your child or disable worse than autism ever could worse than autism in people's mind, but thar was cowardly of them to do too.
