Description Hand-drawn and digitally enhanced Celtic knotwork, in what feels to me like an 'avant garde' style, with the squared corners/curves.

This is really a beautiful design. Much more intricate than the stuff I normally do, absolutely gorgeous. I was wondering if you used graph plotting. Very very nice, and the color shading on this one is also very nice.

Thanks! I do use a type of graph plotting in more of the geometric shapes (like on this design, yes). Way back when, I had been trying to learn it from George Bain's books, but then on a Celtic Art email list, someone linked to another graph approach and it all just clicked. What had seemed so obtuse suddenly became much easier to me for some reason. *shrug* Heh. Do you have a usual approach yourself?

Yeah, actually I do.. and it's a graph plotting method as well.. except for the more organic stuff and interestingly, all of my organic stuff is based on circles. You've done an excellent job with your stuff.. it's absolutely amazing.

It's hard to say which of your designs I like best -- but then, who's to say I must decide? I do love the colors here, though.

I like all of these, but I think this is my favorite. I really get into those blues and violets.

Thanks for both of your comments and the 'fav's on my Celtic stuff! The main designs are actually all hand-drawn. I plot them out in a grid format on paper and then draw all the knotwork in pencil, then in black ink. Then, I scan it in as a black and white gif, then I do many layers in photoshop to color and texture the design, give it depth, etc. Sometimes when I'm doing the knotwork my eyes start to wig out on me if I forget to blink - LOL.

My pleasure, about the 'fav' - your work is amazing!

I've got one Celtic ring and a pair of earrings so far, myself - LOL. There certainly NEEDS to be more sites with Celtic knotwork on them too - excellent! *grin*

Thanks,

Kristen

Whoa! That is grand! The "embossed" look with the intricate shading really is something. Between you and Bradley I am really seeing the appeal of this type of art! By the way - I really like the subtle lavender and teal colors... very "real." Well done.

*grinning from ear to ear* - Why, thank you mightily! I just love working with abstracts and imaginative subjects - no 'rules' per se. (There's a similar appeal to your brand of space art as well - feels really expansive and filled with implied movement.) This is actually the second take on this design - the first one I tried with primary colors and it just came out all weird and I trashed it - oh, the ease and joy of computers that make those kinds of changes SO quick and easy.

Now all I need is a computer that can deal with many more layers and processes without running out of memory - I won't tell you what my current computer is running right now (too embarrassing - LOL), but it takes at least five minutes to open the original file for this piece, and then there's not much memory to do anything else. :-D (In the land of computer graphics, you and Brad set really high standards that I happily aspire to.)

Geez, I'm going on here.... so... I'll stop!

Kristen

p.s. - I uploaded this deviation just so you'd have something to look at for a while tonight.
