Absolutely brilliant, that far outclasses my own work on Celtic Art. How do you get them so precise?

Hi again! As I mentioned in my other comment reply, you can use a grid, whether square or circular, to plan out the piece, and doing knotwork with a grid-base keeps it all rather precise. There are a number of online tutorials about using a grid like that - sorry I don't have any links though!

thanks,

Kristen

Thanks for the tip. It will probably take me a lot of patience to make something the size and complexity of your piece, but at least I know it can be fruitful. Thanks Again

This is beautiful knot work. I'm really impressed! Do you use photoshop for the digital enhancement?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

foxvox In reply to kaidoh [2004-04-09 17:26:30 +0000 UTC]

Yup. (Although I'm kind of limited to what I can do because I have a rather old and not very powerful computer right now. More and more I'm getting to the point where I get the error, "Not enough RAM to complete requested process" or the like.

I have done some designs in actual watercolors over a light pencil outline, but I don't have any of them scanned in at the moment. Those come out cool in their own way, too. But I love the flexibility of doing these things online - can test out color combos, start over, etc. Without having to completely redo the original each time.

What's your approach?

kaidoh In reply to foxvox [2004-04-09 19:25:22 +0000 UTC]

basic sketch out, then pure ink over pencil.. I'm learning how to use photoshop, but I do like the flexibility it offers. Previously, I've used watercolors and acrylic ink. Acrylic ink provides the feel of ink, with the floating over the paper as opposed to soaking into the paper. I'd never colored much until my husband started promoting me to scan it and do it in photoshop. I still prefer the hands on approach of actually sitting down with paper and pencil and using old fashioned pen nibs.
I'd like to learn how to make something into a virtual "object" but the filters I've played around with, I just didn't care for the outcome. The rough frog in draft of mine is the only thing I've ever used a filter on. But Ilike I said, I'm still learning just how to use the dang program.

foxvox In reply to kaidoh [2004-04-12 16:27:06 +0000 UTC]

I love pen nibs - LOL. (And calligraphy, although I haven't done it in years.) There's something very wonderful about doing it by hand, I agree! I've never tried the various inks, but I would be very interested in looking into them now - thanks!

There's certainly a good sized learning curve with photoshop... I've only recently learned how to do a few things that I'd been wanting to do for a while with my older designs but couldn't figure out. (And after learning, it's simple, but when you don't know yet - LOL.)

Here's to all the tools of the trade,

Kristen

LOL - yeah, even after doing this kind of thing for a while and getting the hang of it, it does take a while - exactly. *grin* Thanks for the kudos! (And I'll have to get over to your page when I have a moment to read!)

Cheers,
