Description Black & White Celtic Knotwork Dragon design, layed out in a classic "Yin-Yang" type fashion. (This is my first attempt to add a non-abstract item to my knotwork art - I was pretty happy that the dragon came out reasonably well - LOL).

Related Merchandise (this black design looks really cool on the colored shirts, if I do say so myself):

With a slight modification to the two tabs, it would make a great graphic for a Celtic shield for an SCA event or another similar organization. The tabs just need to be brought down so that they are in line with the rest of the outside.

I looked up Celtic Knotwork on Google image search as I was trying to make some of my own. I thought yours was the best there and these two drawings are heavily influenced by this image: [link] and [link]

I didn't realize the picture source was DeviantArt until a friend asked me how I made one of my images and I sited your picture as an inspiration.

So- what I'm getting at is: thanks for being awesome.

I do offer this design on a shirt in my shop at [link] - the 'shield' shape of it all really does lend itself for a t-shirt, doesn't it - LOL.

hi!!!
you made a really good job!!! I'm from a celtic land in france, if you know Britanny, and I dare say it could be a traditional drawing from there!! I really love it ^^
I tried to do some, and I guess you had lot of troubles to do that, didnt you?
anyway, really beautiful piece of art, faving it right away!!!
bye!

Beautifully done. I love how you integrated the dragons with the knotwork. You let the form show through while still using the knots.

*blushes* nah, I just respond to the artists artwork as one should if they are truly an appreciator of art, or an artist themselves.

Take care!

I know it isn't important to the greater DA community, but my own system of awards is to drop in these little trophies for the best of my favorite pieces. Too bad you can't rate by stars, or double and triple favorite.

I bow to your abilities good sir. I am only starting to teach myself how to do knotwork and hope to be as good as you are.

That's good madam, not sir. But thanks! Once you get the basics of making knotwork down, that's when the fun starts. Good luck!

wow! you like my works? Thanks very much! and yes, it is a bit yin-yangish, as you said above. It's weird, because it mixes the chinese with celtic cultures and stuff, and it's a really nice combination, I can say

Thanks for the +fav! (If someone wanted to make this design into a tattoo, I'd let them do it for free, since it couldn't really be very small really, and they'd have to really WANT to have it - LOL!!!)

Thanks,

Oi, but even with a grid, the lines don't usually come out that....how do you say, even? Very nice work. I certainly can't do it.

Shuibhne [2004-11-05 20:17:02 +0000 UTC]

The outermost ring of interlace is....perfectly balanced. As in, perfectly.

foxvox In reply to Shuibhne [2004-11-08 18:21:50 +0000 UTC]

*grin* Thanks for the comment! I do use a grid for the knotwork when I'm not doing 'free knotting', so that tends to help with the consistency.

its hard to say something that hasnt already been said, but hey, no much I can do right? Its a wonderful design, good execution and detail, the mixture between celtic and asian art types is a bit unexpected, but it works well. Where did you come up with the idea? how did you do it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

foxvox In reply to Crowly [2004-04-30 19:11:54 +0000 UTC]

Good comments! I guess I don't consider the Yin-Yang idea as much from an Asian perspective (even though that's where it's from, of course) as from a metaphysical/balance of energy type perspective. That's where I was coming from with that at least. I basically drew a half circle with my compass and started to create some internal structure, then just decided what shapes and details to add as I went.

yea, I understand the difference but Im very associative, so symbols are related to where they come from and what they mean in the area they come from, but its still a hella cool picture, im acctually kinda jealous......grrr
