Happy Star Wars Day, everyone!!
This was my first piece made entirely using Manga Studio 5 EX, and I really adored using that software. So many great tools. The final product came out so well that even I'm a bit surprised it's all my own work. I really think I've got enough of a handle on it to really start applying it toward commissions.
My only small regret was that I didn't draw Kylo Ren looking more lean bodied. I also know that he didn't have that cloak on in the scene, but it looked too cool to leave out. If you look at the details, I was sure to show Kylo's injuries in ways that was easier to see in the movie. The blood at his waist and the darkening at his eyes. Remember that he was pretty messed up by the bowcaster shot when the fight started.
Those who are in the know, will realize I'm looping over the narration of Maz from earlier in the film. It will all make sense when I finish the second page. I can't wait to get started on page two, which will focus on Rey's appearance.
I also got a little stylish by using Japanese for the sound effects. I wanted to try something new. Do you like that touch or think it's too much? I'd like hearing some input.My Patreon supporters got to see samples of this image throughout its development.

I can't help but think that the cross-guard on his lightsaber constitutes a safety hazard. Why not have them up at an angle, like a jute?
But yeah, either way this is a great work, I love how your style gave new dimension to these characters. Especially the look on his face when Luke's lightsaber "passed him by". To me that had both literal and metaphorical connotations, and that final panel was REALLY well-done.

On point one, The worth to the tri-lightsaber was proven when Kylo was digging that guard into Finn's shoulder. Kylo's is based on an ancient model of lightsaber, as shown in Star Wars: Rebels.

Also, it is harder to cut your hand off with such a cross guard. And btw, it actually goes even inside these metal side vents. Pretty neat.

Perosnally I don't mind the japanese because I can't read it so it doesn't look as silly to me as onomatopoeias in american comics. Just... Keep them unobtrusive.

That's pretty much what I was going for. Standard comic sound effects often come out odd.

Artix Entertainment made flash games like AdventureQuest, DragonFable and MechQuest.
If you're not familiar with the games I guess it may be hard to really show. Try googling AdventureQuest and check the images? I don't think that will be enough to really get it but let's just say the hair and facial structure/art styles are pretty similar.

Welcome. Those brushes saved me so much time making that action-line effect in the bottom panel. I was going for that same effect they use in the anime Kill la Kill for action scenes.
