Contest entry for Zee-Stitch contest! I made a dark forest character for them

Name: Gravelfur
Clan: Thunderclan
Cause of Death: Adder bite

Gravelfur was the plainest she-cat in Thunderclan. The plainest fur, the plainest name, the most basic of skills, very shy. She never felt like she was good enough for anyone, but she was also a hopeless romantic, praying some tom would come sweep her off her paws and she could live a happy family.

Surprisingly that came to her one day, in the form of a tom named Brackenfern. Gravelfur fell head over tail for the tom instantly, and she was constantly glued to his flank as she finally came out of her shell and became a very vocal cat. She soon found herself expecting his kits, and she was over the moon; soon she'd have her perfect family. She was so blinded by her fantasies she failed to notice her mate drawing closer to another she-cat.

Starclan had other plans. She got severely sick with greencough when an epidemic shot through Thunderclan, and not long after she recovered she came down with another illness. It drove her into labor, made her incredibly ill, and her entire litter came out dead. Gravelfur was numb with grief for weeks afterword, hiding herself in the medicine den and refusing to take any herbs given to her to stop her milk.

When she finally came out of her grief, she was hit with another blow of pain; Brackenfern had moved on without her. The death of his kits had made him see the world more clearly, and he realized he didn't truly love Gravelfur. The she-cat he'd been growing close to, Thrushdown, had already announced she was expecting kits.

Gravelfur snapped; her perfect life was being taken away from her. So she'd take it back.

Gravelfur had become more isolated in the clan, even as much as she tried to keep up social practices. She was just unsettling to her clanmates, so rather than anyone helping her they turned their backs to her, ignored her as if she was merely a wall of the gorge.

Her plans began after Thrushdown had kitted. The kits had done no harm to her, and she could not bring herself to harm any kits. She ate tons of borage when she found it out in the woods; she would take the kits as her own, after Thrushdown was gone, and Brackenfern would love her again. It had to work.

Her first attempt was horrible. She asked the queen if she wanted to take a walk down to the gorge, her initial plan being to push her in and tell everyone she lost her footing and fell. Thrushdown was too tired to make the journey and turned around halfway there. Her next attempt was to feed her spoiled freshkill that had maggots in it, but she was caught and scolded violently by Brackenfern for being so foolish. But he didn't suspect it was deliberate.

Brackenfern finally found out what her plans were, when he found her nosing around snakerocks, looking for berries to shove into a mouse she'd just caught. He confronted her, screaming in her face about how she was a horrible cat. Gravelfur finally lost it totally; the cat she'd poured her heart out to and cared for more than her own life treated her as nothing, as if her heart meant nothing.

She got into a fight with him, and they disturbed a sunbathing adder. Brackenfern flung her against the rocks, and as she tried to stand, she saw the adder strike. It sunk into her throat, and she reached out screaming for Brackenfern to help her. Instead, the ginger tom spat at her and left her at the rocks to die. He later led a patrol back there to find her, telling everyone her plans to harm Thrushdown.

She spends most of her time alone in the Dark Forest, talking to herself and playing with rocks, pretending they're the perfect family she never got. She'll often peek in at other Dark Forest baddies when they're near her, but if they're the ones that like to fight she's outta there. She's as much of a coward as she was in real life as in death.
