Stonewhisker was hardly listening, the tabby was busy sorting through the scattered leaves for any sign of something not trampled. "Alright this slould be good" he meowed, returning with the herbs. "Oh! Oh! Can I do it?" Mistypaw asked eagerly

Birchpaw opened his mouth; he didn't want to say it, but he didn't trust Mistypaw with Icefur. His mother wrapped her tail around him and purred, "Of course, just be careful"

"If you think you can handle it then here" he meowed, pushing the herbs toward the young cat. She started turning the herbs into a polise as her mentor had taught her. Suddenly she froze, trying to figure out where Icefurs paw was in relation to her. Stonewhisker watched patiently, his tail curled around his paws

Icefur waited patiently, holding her paw out for her to find while Birchpaw hovered nervously

To her mentors surprise, she managed to put the polise on the white cat though she wasn't quite as thorough as he would have been, it was definetly improvement. "Did I get it?" She asked anxiously, though she was still smiling like a devil. "I think I got it this time right?" "Yes yes you did well, good job Misty" Stonewhisker meowed before addressing the shecat. "Try to keep off it if you can, at least until that's dry, you'll be fine" he meowed.

"Yes, you did very good" Icefur praised the other apprentice. "I'll be sure to stay off it. I'm fine, Birchpaw" She laughed at her kit, who was hovering by her side as she stood up

Just then a large dark tabby pushed past Icefur as though she weren't there. "Brother, I need to speak to you" he meowed, his Amber eyes were like ice as he glaredaround at the other cats.

Icefur stumbled a bit, wincing as she landed on her paw. She shot a look back at him and mumbled, "Rude." Birchpaw padded next to Mistypaw and sat down, sinking slightly under the cat's gaze

Stonewhisker sighed. "Alright if it's that important, Icefure, could you please keep an eye on them?" He asked, he didn't wait for a response before leaving the den with his brother. "Ooooooh Stonewhiskers in trouble again" Mistypaw meowed, straining her ears to try and listen

"Who was that cat?" Icefur asked, sitting down beside Mistypaw. Birchpaw sat on her other side, snuggling up to his mother

"That's my uncle Flintear" she purred "he's usually not that bad tempered but lately he's been really upset since you guys started living here" she meowed, her ears perked. She could just make out the sound of the two brothers bickering

"I know it's hard having two clans in one place, but we'll all just have to adapt for the time being. We're not fit to go back to our territory, so he'll just have to grin and bare it." Icefur huffed, laying down.

"HE told me you aren't a real clan" Mistypaw meowed, flicking an ear. "He says Wolfstar should be more focused on the welfare of our clan rather then yours"

"Excuse me?!" Icefur growled, her ears flicking back and her eyes glinting dangerously. "We are a clan, just as much as yours! Granted, we had to travel here for reasons beyond our control, but we're a clan never the less!"

The blue grey tabby didn't seem to pick up on her anger. "That's what Flintear told me, and he wouldn't lie, not to me" She meowed, shaking her head. "Anyways, I think he's suspicious that Stonewhisker wants to train your medicine cat apprentices, He thinks you guys should train your own apprentices but hey, none of my business right?" Mistypaw purred before trotting off toward the back of the den again.

"Softfur can't train them anymore." She spat, her anger getting the better of her. "She lost her sight defending her daughters and Birchpaw from the dog."

Mistypaw wasn't really listening anymore as she tried to find her nest. Outside the den the two toms could be heard arguing rather harshly.

Birchpaw saw her struggling and walked up to her. "It's over here" He mewed, gently nudging her in the direction of her nest. He'd gotten used to helping Softfur everywhere. Icefur laid back down and listened to the toms fighting, still fuming.Β

"Oh uh, I knew that" she purred before letting him guide her to her nest, she curled up into a ball and waited for her mentor to come back, her ears perked and listening. After what felt like an eternity Stonewhisker trudged back into the den, he looked tired and slightly older then he probably should have.

Birchpaw sat next to her and looked up as Stonewhisker came back. "i-Is everything okay?" He asked

"Everything's fine, there's nothing to worry about" he replied disgruntledly, pushing past the young cats toward the herb pile. "Hm, it looks like we're out of a few things now"

"Didn't sound like nothing." Icefur hissed under her breath, but Birchpaw stepped forward and said, "i-I'll help get some!"

"No no, not by yourself" he meowed shaking his head. "Thank you Icefur you can go now" he meowed. Not looking up from his work.

"Yes, since we're all such a hassle" She replied snarkily, getting up and stalking out of the medicine den

Stonewhisker flattened his ears at her comment but he remained silent, pawing through the herbs. Mistypaw lowered her own ears at Icefurs comment. Flicking her ear in concern for her mentor

"i-I'm sorry about Mom." Birchpaw said, looking up at Stonewhisker. "She's a bit tense after everything that has happened"

"Yes well, she should learn to keep her temper, s'hard for everyone" he replied coolly, not looking back at Birchpaw. "These are difficult times the clans are in right now, tensions are high because of cats like Icefur and Flintear. If this keeps up, the dogs may be the least of our problems"

"w-What do you mean?" He asked, his ears going back. "What could be worse than the dogs?"

"The way I see it, cats are angry, tensions are rising and these tensions will reach a boiling point. Cats will be clawed. Brother against brother. At this rate, a revolt against the shaky leadership is inevitable" Stonewhisker repliedΒ

Birchpaw let out a frightened mewl and went over to sit next to Mistypaw. He didn't want any cat to fight because of him or his clanmates

"They aren't that angry are they?" Mistypaw asked worriedly, curling her tail over her paws. "I'm just as concerned as you are, but don't let that bother you too much, no ones been clawed yet, hopefully our respected clanmates will move past it" Stonewhisker replied

"Actually, someone has" Birchpaw said quietly. "Brackenpaw attacked my mom and Cloudpaw"

"Hm, why am I not surprised" he muttered. "That apprentice of Flintear has always been trouble, and with your mothers temper I guess they were bound not to see eye to eye, and yet Wolfstar and Whitestar didn't act on this?"

"h-He got into trouble, but Wolfstar didn't really punish him" Birchpaw mewed, drooping his ears. "And he's mean to Frecklepaw"

"Hmph, figures, Wolfstar hardly seems to pay attention to his clanmates anymore, ever since his sister disappeared" Stonewhisker replied, flickinghis tail

"What happened to her?" Birchpaw asked, his claws fiddling with the stray moss from Mistypaw's nest

"She went missing, at least a moon ago. Wolfstar sent out patrols and search parties but there didn't seem to be a trace of Foxcloud anywhere, as if she had just vanished." Stonewhisker replied. "After a moon he was forced to presume her dead"

"That's so sad!" Birchpaw exclaimed; he didn't know what he'd do if he lost one of his sisters

"Sad or not her death has clouded his vision as a leader, he needs to remember that he is still in charge around here and that cats are still counting on him to be level headed" he replied with a flick of his tail

"I agree" A voice piped up from the entrance to the den. Hopepaw padded in, a rabbit clamped in her teeth

Mistypaw perked her ears. "Is that another patient?" Mistypaw asked eagerly. "No no Mistypaw just stay there" Stonewhisker replied before addressing the new cat. "I hope you brought that in for us" He meowed

"I brought it for Birchpaw, but I suppose he could share" She said sarcastically as she dropped the freshkill at his paws. Birchpaw gave her a nervous smile, trying to hint her to tone it back a bit

"Yes well keep in mind when you're injured in a fight I don't have to help you" He replied, flicking his ear before turning back to his herbs. "Rowanclan cats. it's like they were raised by badgers" He grumbled.Β

"If we're raised by badgers, then you Stormclan cats must be raised by dogs" Hopepaw shot back coolly. Birchpaw squeaked and bumped her shoulder, trying to get her to stop

"Ah yes, raised by a species that can at least learn to listen to it's superiors, What a crime" He replied, rolling his eyes. "Don't you have fleas to catch or something?"

"Why catch them? They all seem to love you lot" She growled, while Birchpaw tried even more frantically to stop another fight

"Real funny" Stonewhisker muttered sarcastically. "Don't be grateful that we're so humbly letting you stay in our camp or anything." Mistypaw tilted an ear toward Hopepaw and Birchpaw, ere eyes widening a bit at the prospect that her mentor might actually get into a fight.

"Please. All you Stormclan cats do is whine about how much of a hassle we are. You really think we want to be here?" Hopepaw growled, and she probably would have said more if Birchpaw did interruptΒ her. "h-Hey! Let's not talk about that! m-Mistypaw, Hopepaw brought us a fat rabbit"

"If it were up to me you Rowanclan cats would be left to to dogs!" He spat, lashing his tail. "The warrior code says nothing about us having to care for you in your predicament. You Rowanclan cats can't seem to get that through your thick skulls" Stonewhisker hissed, looming over the brown apprentice. "I'd advise you to hold your tongue little brat, because there are very few cats who can save you if the dogs happen upon you and your arrogant clanmates." He growled, his eyes narrowed to slits as he glared down at Hopepaw. Mistypaw swallowed hard before ducking down in her nest with her fur bristled. "Uh..Yea, right, It smells lovely but I uh, I think I'll stay over here!" Mistypaw called back to BirchpawΒ Β

"You'd let innocent cats die because of the code?! The code also says that in times of need, the clans band together to face the danger!" SHe shot back, not flinching from him. Birchpaw pushed between them and said, "c-Come on, stop it! Hopepaw, you're acting like when I first met you!"
