"I wouldn't let GOOD cats die needlessly because of the code! But all you Rowanclan cats have done is proven your arrogance, your delusional sense of superiority" Stonewhisker spat, lashing his tail. "You and your clanmates are a bunch of arrogant, self entitled mousebrains who think the world revolves around you 'oh we were attacked by dogs that means we can be as ungrateful as we please, constantly snapping at medicine cats and ignoring leaders who outrank us because oh we fought the dogs' You lot do act more like a herd of kittypets. I guess staring death in the face wasn't enough to shape you into respectable cats" Mistypaw covered her ears with her paws and squeezed her eyes shut.Β

Hopepaw was trembling with fury, and looked half ready to launch herself at the medicine cat. She looked surprised as Birchpaw fluffed up and shouted, "s-Stop it! This isn't right! w-We're supposed to get along, to help get through this!" He turned and looked up at Stonewhisker with grief-filled eyes and continued sobbing. "i-I had to leave my home. When I was a kit, I had to leave everything I'd ever knew. I'm a wimp, I know that. And I know you're under pressure. But please- stop fighting! Yowling at one another isn't going to chase the dogs away, or fix our camp, or bring Softfur's eyes back!"

Stonewhisker glared at both cats, he kept completely quiet. Mistypaw uncovered on ear and tried to listen. The older tom let out a sigh and turned away from them. "You know what you're clans problem is? They think they're the only ones who have experienced loss" He murmered. "Get out of my sight, both of you" He growled, glaring back at them before stalking back to his herbs.

Birchpaw's ears went back, and he took a step towards Stonewhisker. Hopepaw stepped in front of him, blocking his path, and said, "C'mon, Birchpaw. Let's leave this pile of mouse-dung" She pushed him towards the entranceΒ and out of the den

Stonewhisker simply kept to his work, his ears flattened against his head. Mistypaw tried to stumble after the two other apprentices but Stomewhisker gently blocked her way with his tail. "Let them go Misty..." He meowed quietly, looking down at the blind apprentice. The young tabby lowered her ears but reluctantly nodded. Unknown to the two apprentices another cat had been listening from the shadows, his amber eyes glowing like fire. Without waiting he marched up to the tow apprentices, his dark tabby tail lashing. "You think you're gonna just walk away after that?" The dark tabby snarled

Both of the young cats flinched. Hopepaw whipped around and hissed, putting herself between Birchpaw and the tom. "Leave us alone! It's none of your business!" She snarled, while her friend crouched behind her, more terrified by this cat than Stonewhisker

The dark tabby unsheathed his claws. "I think it's more my business then you could begin to fathem." He growled. "You dare come into my clan and speak to my brother like that? I think you need a lesson in respect!" He snarled, looming over her with his teeth bared. "My brother was far to soft on you, I won't make that mistake"Β

Hopepaw straddled the trembling medicine cat apprentice and snarled, her claws unsheathed. "Try it, mouse-dung! You lay a paw on us, and Whitestar will rip your fur off! You saw what he did to your bratty apprentice!"

"And you think your actions deserve to go unpunished? Mocking a medicine cat unprovoked is alright because he's from Stormclan is that how this works in your tiny little pee brain? You deserve to be left for the dogs" He growled, lashing his bristled tail.

Hopepaw could only snarl in response, drawing the attention of another cat. Icefur dashed over, standing beside her clanmate and son and cried, "What in Starclan's name are you doing?!"

"What does it look like? I teaching these furballs a lesson, disrespecting a medicine cat certainly against the code and I son't let them just get away with is like they've gotten away with everything else!" Flintear snarled, lashing out at Hopepaw with his claws unsheathed.

Hopepaw braced for a blow, but Flintear was blocked by a raging ball of white fur. Icefur let out a scream of rage and collided with the tom's side, then stood in front of the apprentices. He shoulder had a small cut on it, but her fur was straight up and her eyes hard with hatred. "Do. Not. Touch. My. KIT!!!"Β

Flintear fell on his side before quickly scrambling to his paws. His eyes burning with hatred for the three cats. "So you're condoning they're hateful actions!?" He spat, arching his back. he glanced behind him, seeing his brother standing just outside the medicine cats den, his eyes wide and his ears low. Flintear glared back at Icefur and the apprentices before turning away from them and heading toward the camp entrance. "I'll make you pay for what you've said, if it's the last thing I do" He growled darkly before disappearing into the grass tunnel.

The white warrior watched Flintear leave, not relaxing her defensive state until he disappeared from sight. She whipped around, grabbed Hopepaw by the scruff, and started dragging her with surprising strength for a cat her size. Hopepaw started yowling in protest while Birchpaw crawled back to the medicine den. Icefur dropped her outside the apprentice den and started chewing her out

Stonewhisker had since disappeared back into the medicine cats den. Mistypaw was sitting by the herb storage while Stonewhisker put the last of the herbs away. "Alright well I hope no one gets greencough between now and tomorrow" he meowed, pushing his way out of the store. "I'll have to fine Wolfstar and have him set a couple warriors aside for us" "can I come this time? Pleeeease can I come?" Mistypaw asked eagerly. "Absolutely not, it's to dangerous out there" he meoweed sternly.

"w-What if I went with her?" Birchpaw suggested, flinching as he heard his mother tear Hopepaw a new one. "i-I could ask around, see if anyone would mind taking us...."

"Absolutely not" Stonewhisker relied sternly with a flick of his tail. "It's far to dangerous out there right now for a cat like Mistypaw". Mistypaw lowered her ears and shuffled her paws, her blind eyes cast downΒ

"j-Just because she's blind doesn't mean she can't go! If we go in a large group, then the dogs won't be able to pick a target, right?"

"She's not going, end of discussion" Stonewhisker growled. "As is I hardly think you should come either" he meowed, looking down at the grey apprentice.

Birchpaw's ears went back, and he looked at his paws. "I'm nothing but a burden to everyone- cats get hurt protecting me, I'm a coward, I can't even hunt. t-To be honest, Mistypaw is better than me"

Stonewhisker flattened his ears. "If all your going to do is pity yourself then you may as well join the elders" He snapped. "If you're here then Softfur must have seen something in you, now what that thing is is starclans guess to me at this point but no medicine cat would take on an apprentice who couldn't handle the job" He meowed. He glanced at his own apprentice who still seemed downcast and frowned. "Even cats who don't seem like much"

Icefur came back into the den, looking very ruffled. "I have another injury, thanks to your littermate" She growled, gesturing at the cut on her shoulder. She looked between her kit's downcast face and the medicine cat's frown. "What happened"

Stonewhisker sighed. "It's not important, let me take a look" He meowed, inspecting the white shecat. "It's not very deep, a bit of marigold and a few swift licks and you should be fine" He meowed, trudging to the back of his den.

She licked her wound a few times, cleaning the blood off, before wrapping her tail around her son. "You've been so brave, Birchpaw. You're doing your best, and that's all your clan could ask for" Birchpaw looked alarmed, then snuggled into his mother's fur

Mistypaw stood up, making her way back to her nest, her tail slightly flicking as she tried to get away from Birchpaw and his mother. Stonewhisker trotted back out. "Alright be careful cause this is the last of it" He meowed, his voice muffled by herbs.Β

"I'll do it" Birchpaw said, taking the marigold and starting to chew. Icefur turned to Stonewhisker and said, "So Hopepaw said Flintear threatened her and Birchpaw. Care to explain?"

Stonewhisker simply pushed the herbs toward the small cat before turning to Flintear. "I was in here the whole time, how could I possibly know anything about what happened?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. He shook his head. "I don't control my brothers actions, He's a grown cat who lately has been making some hasty decisions" He replied dismissivelyΒ Β

"Hasty decisions? He threatened to hurt them or worse!" She growled, jumping as Birchpaw placed the marigold on her cut

"Like I said, I don't know why he would threaten them, I was in here" He meowed simply. "You should be fine, once he finishes you're free to go" He meowed, walking back to check on Mistypaw

"Tell Flintear if he touches my kit, he'll wish he was never born" She growled as she stood up. She nuzzled Birchpaw quickly and padded out of the den

The medicine cat watched her go before rising to his paws. "I'm heading out to collect herbs, I'll see if I can get Rainspot to come with me" He meowed. He made his way toward the den. "Take a break for a while" He meowed tiredly to Birchpaw. "You've been on your paws all day and I don't see anyone else coming in today" He meowed before leaving the den

Birchpaw sat down next to Mistypaw, paused for a moment, then called, "y-You should rest too! y-You've done more than me"

"The store needs filling, I'll be fine" The older cat called back before disappearing. Mistypaw listened to him go and sighed, curling up in her nest and resting her head on her paws

Birchpaw watched him leave, then kneaded the dirt and laid down. He shut his eyes, and found himself deep in slumber next to Mistypaw. He was much more exhausted than he had thought

Mistypaw flicked her ear at his presence but ultimately let him stay. After all she couldn't very well throw him out of the den a second time, all she could do was perk her ears toward the entrance and wait for her mentor to come back.

The den entranceΒ rustled, and Hopepaw slunk back in. Casting a wary glance over her shoulder, she scooted next to Birchpaw and curled around him. She rested her head on his back, her eyes focused at the entrance. She knew that Flintear was serious in making them pay, and he was not going to hurt her best friend

Mistypaw lifted her head up, she could feel the presence of another cat but she didn't quite recognize the small. She blinked, wondering if it was the cat from earlier. Secretly she hoped it wasn't, she couldn't handle another argument with her, especially without her mentor.

Hopepaw cast a quick glance at the other apprentice and said softly, "It's okay. I'm not here to argue. I'm here for Birchpaw" She looked down at him as he squeaked and rolled over in his sleep

Mistypaw blinked confusedly. "But he's asleep, Stonewhisker told him to take the rest of the day off" She meowed quietly, flicking her ear.Β

"Flintear's gonna hurt him" She said, her eyes focusing back to the entrance. "And I'm gonna rip his fur off if he tries"

"Flintear? He wouldn't do that, not unless you made him real mad" Mistypaw meowed, tilting her head. She suddenly perked her ears, her blind eyes on the den entrance. "Someone's coming" She meowed. at that moment, a familier dark pelt moved silently through the den, eyes locked on Birchpaw. Suddenly they lept into the nest. "Wake uuuuuuuuuuuuuup sleepyhead! It's an awesomely nice day outside!" The dark shecat purred. landing on top of Birchpaw. "Hah! I bet you didn't even see that sneak attack coming, points for Wishpaw!" The shecat purred.

Birchpaw jumped almost a tail-length into the air, falling on top of Mistypaw as he struggled to get his bearings. Hopepaw rolled her eyes and poked her sister with her paw. "Be nice, he's exhausted"

Mistypaw let out a frantic yelp as Birchpaw came crashing down on her. Wishpaw laughed, glancing back at her sister. "Oh come oooon it's good for him to be on his paws, you never know when an intruder is gonna enter the den. She said, pushing close to her sister and peering out of the nest as though she were hunting.

"What are you, a kit?" She said, but it was with a smile on her muzzle she swatted Wishpaw behind the ears. Birchpaw got off of Mistypaw, saying, "Sorrysorrysorry!"

"I am not a kit! I'm just making sure Birchpaw is ready for anything! I'm helping him, right Birchy?" Wishpaw replied gleefully, sitting up in the nest. Mistypaw scrambled to her paws and shook out her fur. "That was fun! lets do that again!" She meowed eagerlyΒ

"s-Stop scaring me" He whimpered, stepping out of the way. Hopepaw rolled her eyes and said, "Hey Wishpaw. Why don't we play with Mistypaw while her grumpy mentor is out?"

"Oooooh good idea!...Wait who's Mistypaw?" Wishpaw meowed, looking around. "I'm a Mistypaw!" Mistypaw exclaimed, pushing past Birchpaw excitedly. "Oh hai! The names Wishpaw, aka the best apprentice ever!" Wishpaw purred rather proudly, puffing out her chest.

"You wish" Hopepaw chuckled, bumping her sister with her shoulder. "Ravenshade's the best mentor ever, so it makes sense the best would train the best." Birchpaw sighed and snuck out of the den; he didn't want to get caught up in another pile

"Nu way Silverstripe is the best warrior, everyone knows that! and that means that I'm the best apprentice!" Wishpaw replied, shaking her paw and smirking. Mistypaw listened, rather in awe of Wishpaw. She'd never met a cat so confident in their abilities before. "Anyways, what do you wanna play?" Wishpaw asked, turning to the tabby. "Uh...I dunno, I don't really get to leave the den very often, what do you guys normally play?" Mistypaw replied

"We play a lot of games" Hopepaw said, running a paw over her ear. "Tag, hide and seek, hunting games... Wait, where's Birchpaw?"
