The only thing I wonder is if that old man is cool with being photographed in such a vulnerable position. I just hope he isn't embarrassed.

Other then that I think it's wonderful that people still take care of their elders instead of shoving them off into a home.

This is an amazing and heart-touching photo! It reminds me of my childhood and my future: my grandparents took care of me and my older brother a lot when we were younger, and I'm going to have to start helping them around the house and whatnot, but it's so sweet, the cycle of things, how the children and grandchildren take care of the parents and grandparents ^^

This is a very caring photo.
Seeing this picture brings tears to my eyes, both in a good and kind of bad way.

I also had to take care of my grandmother when her health was deterating, but she loved her showers, and I was glad that she enjoyed them.
By looking at the grandfather's expression I can tell he enjoys his bath as well, and I can see that he appreciates that his grandson took the time to five him a simple bath, but you can tell he loves it.

Congrats on the DD.

This picture is the first photo I've ever seen on DA that has actually made me cry. There is so much feeling, in the photo, and in myself.

Feelings of joy, love, and sadness- bundled together in one bittersweet emotion.

It is just beautiful

this is a fantastic shot on all levels. i could not do the job that these nurses do but i fully admire their genuine respect.i also belive that the job should also financially equal that level of respect. Unfortunaley here in Britain the life of one can not compete with the life of one bank manager. a person in the care services is lucky to get 7 quid an hour. our system now seems to value the pound rather than a life. sorry to get up on my pedestal it was a reaction to this picture.

You have to respect the guy for his devotion to his grandfather. A lot of people would just try to put him in a home and take no responsibility at all. More people need to be like this young man.

It'd be interesting to have the action featured as art over featuring the photograph itself. That's one of the problems I have with photography. The lines between focusing on subject matter (strictly reality) over technical excellence in design is very trying.

It may not be the best showcase of photography skills in the world, but it most certainly is just as, if not more, deserving of a Daily Deviation than many of the current images in circulation. Why? Because, in a small, unprofessional photograph, this image manages to capture a small slice of human life and emotion with a vividness that other pictures convey in twice as much size and color.

Very, very nice. <3

I looked after my grandmother and know what it means to be around someone so frail. Yet spending time with her, for the last few years of her life was an emotional time, both happy and sad. Thank you for raising the subject matter.

This is an extremely tender and beautiful photograph. It actually tugs at my heartstrings and gives me a lump in my throat, as though I'm about to cry. The love and compassion in this picture is so tangible despite its simplicity, which is the essence of good photography: capturing a moment.

Having worked in the senior community for going on 9 years, 5 of those as a CNA and caregiver, this photo is so incredibly heartwarming. Many have no idea how incredible it is to see a family member caring for their loved one, so many families forget their aging and ailing elders, sending them away for others to care for. I love my job and I care for each person as if they are my own loved one, but I have also learned more and more over the years that my love is nothing compared to that of the families who continue to give theirs.

Thank you so, so much =FreakyLaurent for this beautiful photo and to =Farbod21889 and @OpalMist for your decision to support it as a DD.

Faggot? I think I've finally found a use for that offensive word. I also think someone needs to stop PMS-ing and learn to care about someone besides themselves.

SovereignCookies In reply to TheAnkylosaurus [2010-05-15 19:26:05 +0000 UTC]

the word Faggot means a bundle of sticks...literally

Words are only as offensive as YOU allow them to be.

Don't participate in the hate

SovereignCookies In reply to deaddoll00 [2010-05-16 13:31:45 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but this derives from the original bundle of sticks reference, as the sticks were meant for firewood and you light cigarettes on fire. But very good. Words are fun if you let them be

deaddoll00 In reply to SovereignCookies [2010-05-16 15:10:50 +0000 UTC]

I've never taken offense to a word, personally. Only the context in which it may be used

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SovereignCookies In reply to deaddoll00 [2010-05-16 19:03:42 +0000 UTC]

context and meaning, ah it's all in the eye of the beholder.

example: In England it is considered impolite to not finish your plate clean. but in Japan if you clear your plate it's a sign that you didn't get enough to eat. It's all in how you see the world

This photo is really touching and wonderful. I love the subject and it shows that you can't judge people by how they dress or what kind of image they have. Just because you have tattoos does not mean that you're a cold, unfeeling person. This puts that into a new light!
