it also seems like he's smiling and enjoying time with his son.

there is nothing sad really here, It is a beautiful photo of a beautiful moment, one that when a person is gone, you regret the things you never done. We as a race are too fickle and feeble to see the beauty here, we are too up our own asses and in too much of a rush to stop and enjoy the little things. Dude, I really salute you for having the balls to put this on here, and the patience and caring to care for you gramps this way.

Somehow saddening, reminding me that everything fades
But also creating hope in the future (aka children etc)
Glad you captured it

I throughly agree with , because it does show that the youth will soon see some elements of their past again years before they die.

I don't know what I can say about this picture that hasn't already been said. Its very evocative of emotions we've all felt at point or another.

I must agree with CecilyAsia, what more can you say about such a moving portrait of life, where there are no bright lights and smiling film stars to candy coat the real world.
congrats on capturing a very tender moment between Chadd and his gramps.

My sentiments exactly !
I had a hunch that someone would comment such thing. Which is very well stated.
Surely appreciated that alot. My stay in California for three weeks. I enjoyed the quality time w/ the family, especially new grand daughter !
The again life is short, best to make the time !

oh my god.. there's something so disturbing about this pic. not in a bad way of course. but i feel like crying when i see it. its sad and, peaceful at the same time... i honestly don't know what to say but it really touches me deeply, and felt i should say something. i suppose it's just the brutal "in your face" style this picture has, bluntly showing that EVERYONE eventually gets old, and before they die, will inevitably go back to the needs of that similar to children, having to be bathed, etc. it's fucking scary. the other thing is Chadd - you can tell he loves his grandfather so very much. he definitely breaks the stereotype of a big, tough tattooed guy who doesn't have a soft spot on his body. What he's doing is just incredibly sweet. Yeah, it's just the mix of it all. Chadd being so unbelievably nice, his grandfather smiling regardless of looking naked and vulnerable, and also his body looking so frail and fragile... it's all so.. it's just so "true". its an honest picture. has the good and the bad, and it's really amazing. im probably repeating myself. but well done, really, this image has brought tears to my eyes.

i know how you feel on this subject, this picture too brought tears to my eyes. when i had lost my grandfather (only one i had too) i was angry with the world, to me he was a hero, i felt that he was legend and that he should have died with more respect than in just a nursing home that didnt care for him. i regret it now, but i wish i had done more him at that time (though i was only 8years old). my grandfather was a union man who helped so many others. im glad there are still people out that realize how important our grandparents are.

This is a photograph that makes us ponder and sit a while, looking at it, while thoughts rush in and out of our minds. I believe CecilyAsia has put our feelings, emotions, and thoughts pertaining to this emotional photograph into words.
This is the most sentimental piece of work I've seen. It really brings us to the reality of life.
