Description "Kerry", Watercolor, 11"x15"

I was taking pictures at Bluefield College at my wife's painting unveiling. I spotted a good friend of mine, Kerry, and while talking to him I noticed the way the light in the room was hitting his face. The light created a strong contrast and I am attracted to that kind of dramatic lighting so I had to do a painting of this. Kerry and I are also great friends, so I wanted to include him in my new series of "People in my World".

NOTE: 5/5/11 - I have renamed the title of this deviant. This was my first upload on here and I did not know how this worked so I put in a simple title thinking that was a subject thing. As I was cruising on this site I learned how to edit this and I have restored this deviant to the original I titled it when I finished the piece "Kerry".

This is beautiful, the shading on this is remarkable.
I love the soul you put into the eyes. And the simple bg behind him so he stands out strong.
I really love how you painted this the texture on the skin you have created by painting shows up very nice. This came out very nice indeed. A must fave wonderful work. Wow I'm just stunned.

Wow I love the lighting and your color pallet in this. I really like how the abstract colors add to the mood already created by the shadows. I love when people push dark colors in water colors.

Thank you I struggled with dark colors but I have spent a good deal of time studying the properties paint and that has helped me out a lot. In this painting I used maybe 4 colors.

I seriously like the fact that you used a darker skinned man to paint. I know that at times the lighting can become too dark because of the dark skin, but this piece is perfect. Everything has it's own shade and it flows so well. I love the location of the light source. It gives the painting its own story. Very nice.

Thank you. Kerry is one of my best friends and the structure of his face with that kind of lighting gave the image so many stories to tell . I love painting people with characteristic feature, also love paintings people who have a story and I love painting people of various ethnic backgrounds. All of them show a powerful story

I realized you enjoyed drawing those kinds of people after I went through your gallery. There were colors in each piece that represented either hope, depression, fear, pride, etc. Those colors grabbed my attention and let my imagination soar. Love work like that. Plus it's illustrated very well.

No problem I respond to all comments, not always every fav just because I don't have the time for it.

But yes, I try to show the beauty of other cultures and I try to show their struggles too. I feel that if I can show people that others have the same hurts, joys, and hopes then maybe they can see that we are not different at all? IDK, maybe someone will get it and I glad you saw that Thank you. I will have to check out your gallery too!
