Description This is a ROUGH basic setup for shading skins in C4D using the free translucent plugin from vreel.

It is far from perfect and is just a starting point for your own experiments.

This is still valid but you might also try the included Chanlum Shader instead of the Translucent shader, different effects but both work well to get a better looking skin.

Fredy, this worked like a charm! Thanks - is there a way to apply the luminance channel to more than 1 texture at once or do I have to load each skin texture and go thru all the settings?

Thanks. Glad it was helpful for you. You can select more than one texture (shift to add/ctrl to remove)...

What I do is the following:

1. Click in the object manager on your figure
2. In the material manager, click to select all materials from this figure
3. Create new material group "Character"
4. Now select with shift all textures belonging to the skin
5. Create new material group "CharacterSkin"
6. While in this group you can press CTRL-A to select all materials
7. Now the attribute manager says something like "10 materials selected"
8. Now select the part you want to edit and you can edit this for all selected materials at the same time

Isn't this neat!?

Cinema 4D - one of the major 3D apps on the market from Maxon [link]

Model - Render - Animate

A basic system starts with around 700 Euros going up to some thousend Euros... Well worth the money....

The effect depends also very much on the lighting, but the subtle effect is ALWAYS noticed...
