Description
KM - 'General Winter fighting alongside Canada'The Battle of Quebec in 1775, in which American soldiers and the Canadian regiment they'd raised attempted to take on the larger and much more warmly dressed Canadian militia and British regulars during a snowstorm. Undeterred by the subsequent massacre, they then tried to siege the town while a General Winter and Smallpox tagteam made its rounds through the camps. Yep, that probably wasn't a good idea.
Headcanon says Canada would be physically around 13-14 at the time. He's wearing a mix between the Quebec militia uniform, the regular's cap and torque, and a makeshift cloak many of the really ill-equipped American fighters (and their Canadian supporters) had to resort to wearing. Talk about conflicted.
It made no sense for General Winter to wear a Russian uniform that won't exist for another half a century or so, so he gets a British grenadier's uniform. You do not screw with someone wearing a foot-tall bearskin cap.
EDIT: The process steps can now be found here for the curious.

One should avoid messing with Canada. Even more so when he has General Winter with him. I just love how Winter touches the soldier's face and it is instantly frozen. (Giving hugs must be rather disheartening though.......)

I'm very conflicted by this.
From one side, I love canada and I think he is very loveable. But I'm American and when I see the American soldier it makes me want to help the soldier.
But I love it

I'd imagine other cold countries having his support when needed too.

This is just... amazing *-* and very interesting! I didn't knew about this part of the Canadian and American history (Hetalia is definitively the best way to learn History ^.^)

It's so rare to see Grandpa Winter with somebody else
Can I ask you why Russian uniform won't exist for another half of a century

Thank you!
It's been a while since I drew this, but iirc the Russians had a different uniform at the time of the battle.

I was scrolling through and found this gem.
This is a really obscure battle, usually overshadowed by the New-York/Jersey battles or the Battle of Halifax in terms of Americans invading areas that would become Canada.
I always find it incredibly interesting to see 2 sides of the same coin. From my perspective, Quebec (the city) remained free, while I am sure the American revolutionary patriots were thinking they were trying to liberate it from Great-Britain. The Canadian Militia were mostly comprised of Frenchmen... they were protecting their homes while fighting alongside a bitter partner/enemy: Britain.
Well I guess you use the tools you're given.

Canadian history seems to be overshadowed by flashier events going on (the place might as well not exist according to my school's curriculum...). And the thing about the understanding of history in general is how oversimplified things are presented to be. Seeing the same event from different sides is part of what makes it so interesting imo.

Woah, stunning and so...moving, the movement and dynamics of such a character as General Winter is phenominally done, bravo! I love the determination in Canada's eyes and this brilliant composition of the background elements and tone!

(Slowly but surely replying to the mountain of old comments) I'm glad you liked this! Action scenes are hard to pull off, but it looks like it paid off in this case. Seeing General Winter with someone other than Russia is always a treat in itself imo.

Aiyaa, that's one powerful piece of art you got, here. It' s just... wow. The look of jaded determination on Canada's face is just chilling (no pun intended), and General Winter there is a very nice touch. I like seeing him with other nations than just Russia. And that poor American soldier. Not a fun time, for all involved, but I think you did it justice. Job well done!
