Description
So, did any of you guess it in the end? The main plot? Well if not, here you go:There are two Malcolms
One is human. The other is an impostor.
The real Malcolm McKenzie was born in the UK, early 1990s. Outward age and biological age: 24. His first language is English; he plays bass for his friend's band; eats, sleeps and works an an institution known as the Factory designing firearms and intelligent explosives. He is right-handed. His eyes are chocolate brown.
He has known his best friend, Brin, since childhood. He is wed as a familial brother to an enzyme called Oscar. He is an ordinary, nice, down-to-earth kind of guy.
The fake Malcolm McKenzie, real name: III Schwartzmond, was born in Switzerland, 1957. Outward age: 24. Biological age: 57. His first language is German, his second English, and has some fluency in French and Swedish. He has only ever had two friends: a construct called Ӧrjan and a human called Stephan, whom he worked alongside in a chemical weapons factory during the run up to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He is ambidextrous. His eyes are pitch black.
He is wanted for 11 counts of murder and 289 counts of damage to company property and is currently in hiding using an extreme form of identity theft. He has been likened to the cuckoo in the nest, or the wolf in sheep's clothing. He is not somebody you should want to get involved with.
If any of you ever happen to flick through my FBOCT stuff again, you might notice all the little conflicts and sleights in language which had been pointing to this. I didn't expect people to understand what was going on, at least not in this much depth: I had the plot so well planned out in my head, but not enough foresight to put the necessary bits in my FBOCT round, which is probably why my last round felt a little diluted or incomplete in storyline. But know you know I guess.

You're welcome Frost! I dont think you made it difficult to work out, I think it was just like my mind jumped to every other conclusion it could think of XD looking back at it you had a lot of good information and a lot of reaaaaaally well done hints that told a lot but DIDN'T actually tell us what was happening which is super hard to do and something you did REALLY well! I think the only thing that might have lead us into the conclusion more is maybe have some flash backs of III stalking the real Mal or maybe just pacing things out a little more? if that makes sense XD

Yeah that makes sense, haha
Pacing III's story in FBOCT was so difficult; I just didn't know what to focus on! I wanted to get his character development across more than anything, so I'm glad it kinda stayed focussed on him, rather than the revelation that his identity was a sham. But it would've been nice if I'd had the majority of the story worked out from round one!

My mind likes to play conspiracy theorist when it comes to figuring out backstories XD "it could be THIS but...oooh what if it's this even more ridiculous idea?!"
Oooh yeah I know exactly what you mean! Pacing is one of the toughest things in me for OCT's because there's so much I WANT to do and I dont always know exactly how I want to execute it XD the good news is, it starts to come together the more you practice. Cuz I did the same in my PublisherOCT rounds where I kinda flew by the seat of my pants with some of the story and had to figure out pacing, and after that I got some good feedback and applied it to the next one c: It's all a learning experience ^^
I do really like that you stuck with it and really developed III before we knew about his thing with stealing identities cuz then we really got to know III himself (even if we thought he was Mal XD ). And like I said the fact that you managed to string us along for so long making us wonder is really actually amazing because thats the hardest thing sometimes is being sneaky enough that people DON'T see something coming until you spring it on them. And on top of that III/Mal's story is just plain fantastic and fascinating! I'd be really curious to see more of him (you know, when he's not flirting with Percy xD )!

I never would have guessed that!
So is it that III has all of the Old Malcom's memories?

No, III can't assimilate memories. He spends roughly a year learning to mimic behaviours of subjects. He goes to the extent of chiselling his own vocal chords to imitate their voice, and can only pick subjects if they bear a similar height and body type to his own. There is nothing fancy or technological about the way he goes about assuming a new identity; he's just a very good actor.
For example, his original "habits" which have been dropped over time during FBOCT: his change in music taste, using the headband, the way he likes having his hair... they're all habits he needed to copy from the human Malcolm. Being in future Las Vegas, there was no need to keep on pretending. The way he favours his right hand over his left, even though he doesn't have hand dominance? Exactly the same reason.

So was "Malcolm" ever really In the tournament at all? And where does Frankie fit into all this?

The real, human Malcolm has been featured in some of the flashbacks of FBOCT but was never part of the tourney. More or less the entire story has been following the impostor, III, who still just looks like a human.
Their lives and stories are pretty much completely separate and different. The real Malcolm's story will follow the reasons how he came about working for the Factory in the first place and the reason he made "the deal" with III.
III's story will follow his unhealthy need to love somebody, a compulsion he's felt obliged to fill since he was torn away from his first child, Emaline, too early; hence his kidnapping of Frankie in an effort to have a child of his own (remember, constructs can't reproduce)
