Description Let's see if I know how to do a Preview....

*edit* No, I don't know how to do a preview T__T...so here's the original...

Okay! This is Half of the Tutorial! Steps 1-5 are, to me, the easiest. They are the Drawing and Inking Part of making a Doujin ^_^

There is a lot of information packed in here--so if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask!

One of the BIG things that I just touched upon is Printing. Size and Scale are VERY important if you plan on Printing this out. Also, the Folding Paper to make a booklet is the way your Doujin will read, putting the staples in the very middle (top) Page.

When you print it out, of course you're not going to print them in page order! Page 1 should be printed with the Last Page on the same page! Get it? Page 2 with 2nd to last page, so on and so on. The middle pages will be next to each other and that's where you staple. Also, don't forget to take into account a Nice Cover Page! ^_^

Here you can see my process, my Rough Sketches are REALLY rough, I then make changes or add more detail when penciling in the second time on my official paper, then add finishing touches when I Ink.

Hope this helps to anyone wanting to make a Doujin ^_^

VERY awesome tutorial. This will definitely be of some assistance to me.

The thing I have trouble with is coloring in any black object- like, black hair, a black shirt, etc.

Yours seems to show up so clean when scanned; is there any particular method you use when inking in a big area? Do you color over it all once and then go over it again, or...?

We the origianls always look flawed. If you read the 2nd part [link] I explain how to make your blacks blacker and stuff by computer.

so what's the point of tracing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

frostyshark In reply to pride1289 [2009-03-25 04:33:57 +0000 UTC]

it was whenever I blew hem up twice their size, and then I traced (or redrew) and inked for better detail.

Thanks so much for sharing!! This is so helpful!!
One question - your rough sketches that you trace - do you trace and resketch everything on the bigger papers, or just ink things on it? Also, if the former, how to you get rid of the pencil lines on the big sheet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

frostyshark In reply to artemisgirl [2009-01-23 00:15:18 +0000 UTC]

It is the former. I "resketch" but ever so lightly so that I can easily erase them.

This is really good! I don't have a light table, or a glass table so I use the window. Lol! It's usually good to use sticky tape and tape it to the window so it doesn't move! (Oops, rambling)
Great tutorial! It's really going to help!

I made a light-table. I took a 3ftx4ft storm window and mounted it to a 2 level computer table. I'll take a picture of it and maybe someone else can do the same.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

frostyshark In reply to Mango1314 [2007-06-06 18:50:29 +0000 UTC]

do not get discouraged, young grasshopper XD

I too, started from the beginner level--augh, you should see my high school comics! *__*

But the only reason I improved was because I just kept drawing. And I also observed a lot of techniques. Like certain page layouts--which one works the best--backgrounds, shadings, movement.

I'm still learning too. ~__^
I still make those boring boxes for panels and I can't seem to get down that "Shojo" look like you can (I've seen your Apple pip pages too ^_^) I really like your layout on these pages.

Yes all of us are still learning, we shall one day become pro's!!! yeah!!!!!
lol ^-^

wow thanks (for the shoujo comment) its funny coz this malaysian guy thought that i wanted to become a shoujo mangaka ^-^ ahaha

But gods, i love the way you shade it looks extremely beautiful

tikeo In reply to frostyshark [2007-05-24 23:23:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh...... Is the actual light box better then the make-shift one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

frostyshark In reply to tikeo [2007-05-25 14:59:30 +0000 UTC]

well...they both get the job done. One's cheaper, and if you don't have the right lamp, can get really hot! But once you have a lightbox it's more convenient.
