Will 0.8mm wire be thick enough do you think?

I use electrical tape but it doesn't matter what tape you use, its just to mark the length of the wire.

I know this is a stupid question, but do you think you could maybe send the digital file of your references, so I could print it out for my sculpting, and have it the same size? I'd be affraid I would make mine to big or to little.

I dont have anything like that. Its all estimated sizes and guesswork. Load a picture into a program with a ruler bar and work off that.

I am questioning as to your source for the reference material. (I can never find pictures of the same size...)

Neither can I, Β so I just drop them both into a blank photoshop canvas or Β MS word page and size them myself.

It really doesnt matter what gage the wire is. You just need one thick and one thin. I use 2mm steel fencing wire for the thick and 0.5mm gardenwire for the thin, if that helps.

Instead of using the thinner wire would it also work if you wraped to wire with tinfoil?

Yep, as long as the clay has something to grip to anything will do.

I had not known that you use a removable base...it all makes sense and isn't impossible now. Very glad you decided to make a guide.

Awesome! It's always good to see how others do their armatures. I work a lot with foil and masking tape as well to build up the bulk in my sculpts, especially the larger ones.

Very, very interesting.
I was just thinking how nice it would be if I were capable of artistic efforts like this. A nice tutorial might help me at least try my hand at it, albeit with assuredly pathetic results.
Still, nice tutorial. I felt like every step was succinctly and efficiently explained and I almost feel confident at not screwing up should I try this. Nice jorb there, Homestar.

awesome tutorial! I only use PARTS of wire for my sculptures but I can see how a whole armature would be a lot more secure and easier to sculpt with.

I've always had trouble with armatures, this really helps! Just one question, what are the gauges of the wire? Also what material (steel, aluminum etc)
π: 0 β©: 1
frozenpyro71 In reply to sapphire44456 [2013-06-16 20:59:36 +0000 UTC]
I honestly dont know the guages of the wires but it doesn't really matter. Just need a thin one and a thick one
As for what material; I use steel fencing wire (thick) and aluminium garden wire (thin).
